Old Laptop Storage Upgrade Question
Just now, kb5zue said:Funny that you would have this question right now because I just received an old laptop the owner wants me to work some magic on. He wanted me to upgrade the ram and the drive also but after opening it up I found the ram is so old that nothing that I can find is compatible and the hard drive is actually a 60Gb IDE so there basically is no upgrading. For ram, it has 512Kb (2x256).
The operating system is Windows XP. Fortunately he had all the original CD disks including the OS and all the drivers. Bad thing is that I have not messed with WinXP for so long that I am having problems getting the internet set up. It recognizes the internal NIC and all the drivers are good, it just won't transmit/receive any data. It shows connected, but no transmissions.
Hope that you have better luck than I am having. Good Luck.
I forgot to answer your basic question. I have all the spare parts mentioned in my post, but to answer your question I would say no, it's not worth it. Basically if you have to spend any money on the upgrade, regardless of whatever it is you're replacing, then it is not worth it. So, no money involved, maybe. If there is money, forget it.
