Personally, I don't see the appeal of skins. It doesn't protect a phone from fall damage or anything like that, it just slightly make your devices scratch resistant.

I think that recently being kinda edgy and cool has really been positive on marketing and I think that really this isn't unprofessional its just marketing appealing to my generation as right now for my gen its about being cool and savage as the millennial gen is getting to early 30's which maybe you could consider them to not be young people anymore they are appealing to a younger demographic like recently Arbys was making anime references to the popular show My Hero Academia ( which is literally the best new shounen rn imo )  or how Wendy's now roast people and other companies are beginning to do this like the moon pie for example, is showing a change in marketing.

they look cool and you can just get a bummer case like the Dbrand grip to go with it and it protects your phone and also a normal case would block wireless charging which some people really like.

Ever since people like Logan Paul got popular that's what some companies tries to emulate. Judging by the posts in this thread, it is working too. Act like a dick and get praise from teens and preteens on the Internet.

Differentiating between jokes and non-jokes has always been an issue in text. Hence why people started explicitly writing "sarcasm" or "/s" in posts.

I think the big problem here is that dBrand is trying to come off as edgy and "savage", but their jokes fall flat over and over, at least to me. They honestly reminds me of Logan Paul rather than coming off as witty humor.

Probably a good business move, this thread is proof in itself. Look at all the attention they are getting solely from calling a phone trash. This strategy has become prevalent through the past couple of years and since it works like a charm I wouldn't expect it to stop any time soon.

dbrand isnt the only brand that does this. Brands like UBNT do it all the time. They compare themselves unfairly to mikrotik yet cant provide the speed with the features that their customers buy their routers for while mikrotik does and they call their userbase fanatical and made an ad to downplay cisco too saying that cisco are too expensive, unreliable and slow.

 

Its very common for smaller brands to try and criticise bigger brands saying that their stuff is better. Such PR is considered to be risky as if someone clearly proves otherwise it'd explode back on you and no one would trust you. In the case of UBNT though, people simply didnt realise

This is getting kind of off-topic but I think it's important that people learn these things.

There is a difference between posting PR statements which puts your own products in favorable light, and making bad "jokes" where you just say that other companies suck and belong in the garbage.

 

In case someone don't get the difference, the first is making your own product look better, while the other one is just shit talking to make some other company look worse.

Make yourself look good = OK

Make others look bad = not OK (in my opinion)

 

Whenever companies like AMD and Nvidia post normalized benchmarks they usually put their competitor as the baseline, and then show their own graphs as being bigger. That's because saying "these products are average, but our product is above average" sounds better (to mature people at least) than saying "our product is average, but their products are shit".

Here is an example showing what I mean. AMD is the baseline, and Nvidia shows where their product is better. They don't show their product as the baseline and show how bad AMD is.

 

 

You might not think nuances like this matters, but it does, a lot.

They both convey the same message (using your own or your competitor as a baseline), but one makes you sound like a douchebag and the other makes you sound respectable.

Ummmm, that's a plot of a GTX 580 compared to a GTX 480 with a GTX 480 as the baseline. Nothing to do with AMD.
