Getting a new 3:2 laptop, any suggestions?

Looking into getting a new laptop. Ive had my eyes on the surface series, but im waiting to see if others adopt the 3:2 aspect ratio. Is there any models that have the 3:2 aspect ratio or a similar ratio on the market, or that is coming to the market in the near future?

don't know why anybody would prefer 3:2 over 16:9, and i don't think that this will be the new standard. 16:9 gives you the most options, so I'd rather take something cheaper than the surface series (which i heard is not the most longlasting stuff) and dip the 3:2

I like the formfactor. 16:9 is okay but i believe i would enjoy the 3:2 form facor more for the work i do, which isnt a lot. And im waiting to see if the refresh of the surface laptop is worth it. Or see if a refresh of a the Huawei Matebook X. But other than that idk what my options are.

Microsoft Surface product line. iFixIt is each time surprised how bad a device can be repaired and my experince is that the Surface Pro tablets are unreliable with fast support when it breaks every couple months.

HP Pavilion x2

Though i think upgradability and repariabilith is important. I dont mind if 1. It has a good warranty 2. Its got a reasonable lifespan(performance and durability wise).

  • 3 months later...

I bought SB 2 15inch for the same reason.

I was looking for a regular clamshell laptop with 8th gen U (so quad core part) cpu and tall aspect ratio.

However, there were either only tablets with tall aspect ratio & 8th gen cpu, Macbook (MacOS intrigues me but not midst of term), or 16:9 regular laptops so I said "fk it" and went ahead and bought SB2 15 inch.

Matebook X pro (mx150 and 8550u) is out now but I needed a device before that and it costs just as much as the SB2 13inch mid-tier model (gtx 1050 and 8650u).

My problem now is that there are QC issues with it and have exchanged quite a few times now.

I also have bought SP4 before and exchanged it few times as well but returned it at the end after seeing the last device having the same issue.

Witnessing similar behavior on a 3k device 2 years later is something that I'm not too thrilled about but after using 3:2 for little over a month, I just can't....can't go back.

Just throwing this out there- you might want to consider a chromebook.

They are better suited to certain tasks than windows.

Googke Chromebook pixel and Pixelbook, Samsung Chromebook plus/pro have this resolution.

currently i will need the PC for scriptwriting and light photoediting. also i would possibly set up a dualboot with Linux on one end.

thunderbolt would also be nice. Chromebooks are nice, but considering the amount of time im keeping this laptop im probably going to dish out the extra for Win 10 / linux distro (due to versatility).

i will have a look on the devices you mentioned though.
