Teacher: Does anyone have a thin ruler?

Students: No.

Teacher: Ok. Does anyone have a nail file.

Students: Why do you need a nail file?
Teacher: I have a staple I need to remove.

The challenge of getting there and getting home, probably.

I can't wait until we figure out how to travel rapidly to other planets. I imagine it'll take joint efforts though, so until people stop chasing nothing but profit, it's unlikely to happen at any rapid pace.

There are a few sides to this tale.

Micro-Organisms on other planets

Fully Intelligent Space Traveling Aliens

and maybe a 3rd like developed animals or insects on other planets.

The vastness of space, theres gotta be something!

There'd definitely be other intelligent life. If you consider how many billions of planets there are, the chance of us being the only intelligent life is so minuscule. I think the theory that we're simply a computer generation of what life was in the past is a more solid theory than that.

You've been here as long as me but never post. It's good to have a thread that brings you back. BTW, an unfortunate incident occurred in which I found a massive flaw in my universities door security system, and I was unfortunately forced to quit chasing my astronautical degree.

Within days/weeks. Think StarTrek.

Star Trek is much faster than that for solar system travel. The TNG era shuttles can take off from Earth, fly around Jupiters moons, and return to Earth all in a days flight lesson.

To get to mars in a week would require a minimum velocity of 325,000 Kmh.

Maybe @dizmo this is all just a dream!

or maybe we are the aliens "Ant Farm" or experiment, perhaps aliens are studying us and the inevitable self destruction we will cause, which in hence is why we need to colonize Mars when Earth dies from too much pollution and we need long distance space travel ;)LOL Im a pro at tying in a tangent into the OP's question!

Mars is the closest one. I chose it because it's a best case scenario. To get to the closest planet to us in 7 days would require going 325,000 kmh minimum, and that's with instantaneous acceleration and deceleration.

Haha, exactly! The logic behind the simulation theory is actually rather interesting if you get into it. Something about how low the chances are of math being able to solve everything if everything was truly randomized, like it would be in a "real" mother nature.

I was thinking outside of the solar system.

Simulation theory gets real interesting when you start thinking about who is doing the simulation, and how they got there (and where exactly is "there")

That would depend on how you define intelligent life. The universe is fairly young, so would it be impossible for us to be the only creatures capable of building rockets and computers in the universe? No it isn't impossible at all. There may have been these intelligent creatures in the past, and are now extinct, lost to the vastness of the universe, never to be discovered. There may be intelligent creatures in the future. For how little time that humans have been around, I wouldn't be surprised if, right now, we are alone. Granted, I still expect there to be other intelligent life in the universe, just super far away. If you extend intelligent life to include dolphins and other apes like bonobos, then yeah there's definitely other intelligent life. It is worth noting, that as far as we (collective we) know, humans are the only animals capable of asking questions. Computer generation theory has a lot of problems though.

Space is pretty awesome.

Haha, I lurk more than I post nowadays. That and most of my posts are in off-topic. Unsat about quitting school. Anyway to get into another one?

Funny thing, in school I took I took classes like aircraft performance, stability & control, structures, and aircraft design. I'm only just starting to develop an actual understanding of those topics since learning to fly real planes.
