Best GPU for combo with i7 4790k?

keavlar

Hey guys.

I know that in the past the 970 , 980, and 980 ti were count as the best combo for this GPU.

Now with the new Line of GPU, what you think is the best combination for the i7 4790k?

A 1080 ti I guess? According to userbenchmark, it's not that much weaker than a 7700k.

As always though, that would depend on which games you play. You might get CPU bottlenecked if you play CPU-intensive games such as the Total War series at high refresh rates and low resolutions.

GTX 1070/1080/1080ti.

Overclocked i7 4770k/4790k has no problem to keep up with even 1080ti at high refresh rates.

any GPU-heavy games are still a stroll in the park for my 4790k, and CPU-heavy games are gonna neck cpu side anyways no matter what you buy.

just get whatever suits your budget and/or needs best. 1070 is plenty for 1080p honestly, if you're going for 1440p or higher, there's the higher card options for you.

I would say a 1070 TI or a 1080.

I always say build your PC around what monitor you are gonna use.

It really depends on what monitor you have?  What monitor are you gonna be using?

You need a GPU that can push the monitor resolution and refresh rate you have.

I have a 3440x1440p @ 100hz and a 4790k at 5ghz with a gtx 1080 pushed most games in that resolution at max settings close to 100hz.  But in a lot of multiplayer games like bf1 wow and stuff like that the 4790k was holding me back.  Even in games like ACO my 4790k at 5ghz was hitting 90-100% load causing stutters.

CPU:                       Motherboard:                Graphics:                                 Ram:                            Screen:

i9-13900KS   Asus z790 HERO      ASUS TUF 4090 OC    GSkill 7600 DDR5       ASUS 48" OLED 138hz
