Okay I'm at my wit's end. How the heck can I build a computer responsible for home automation.

Pre requisites, must be small, must not require more than air cooling, must be 3 1/2 inch thick - up to 24 inch height - max 14 inch wide. Touch screen, transcode minimum of 3 mpeg streams at once with power to spare. Blue ray drive.

It will be running Kodi and Linux.

How can I make this all work together? I know I need processing power but how can I get it small enough to be installed in a wall hidden....

PS. I'm trying to build the ultimate home automation setup. But there is just way to much incomparable hardware to get things even talking to each other.

Pick a case first. Some mITX cases should be small enough, but you have to pick one first. These work arent that difficult to run so it's easy choices there.

this looks like it would fit your use case, although you'd need an external blu-ray drive (they're easy to find but not that cheap). You could then add any screen you wish, ranging from cheapo stuff like this to whatever fits your size and budget.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

The performance is pretty decent, don't expect insane framerates though. Emulators should run fine.

id also say pi maybe with the 7 " touch screen and the case ? if you need more power i wuold always rather hide a small server type system in a closet and have a wall mount for a tablet accesing the server than opening up the wall and trying to hide it all in the wall.

the answer to making it all work together is coding. most home automation stuff has some interface or another. usually through a hub sometimes a 433mhz module on a pi can help it all depends on what youre trying to inface with

"You know it'll clock down as soon as it hits 40°C, right?" - "Yeah ... but it doesnt hit 40°C ... ever  😄"

Like 25-30fps average with normal settings?

I think so since most android can run psp games even better than the psp itself

Sounds like you're trying to build a HTPC that also does home automation. I would recommend two separate solutions.

For the home automation stuff, just get a Raspberry Pi. It's perfect for that.

For the HTPC, do you really need it to transcode multiple video streams at once? Won't you just use it for video watching? A low end Pentium with integrated graphics will be more than enough for that. Just make sure it supports the latest video formats.

more like low settings but 30+ should be achievable.
