Should I spend my money?

Long story short.

My friend wants to sell an FX-9590 8-core for me. He wants $70 for it. Should I spend my money on it? Or should I buy an 8th gen Intel / AMD Ryzen new?

Are there any big difference in Intel/Ryzen compared to the 9590?

Far better performance per dollar and less heat and power consumption

$70 is better gambled away on loot boxes than anything AMD made before Ryzen.

But I want 8 cores... JK. But isn't that thing boost to 5Ghz? Don't worry about cooling I got an H80i cooler. And $70 is quite a bargain for 8 cores tho.

8 garbage cores based on 2011/2012 architecture.

Core count does not equal performance.

You would get better performance out of a Ryzen 1200 since it has far better IPC performance even though it's got less cores.

What's the difference between the R3-1200 vs FX-9590 in multi-threaded? Because I'm going to do some video editing on it too.

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-3-1200-vs-AMD-FX-9590/3931vs1812

The FX is slightly better in multi threading but think about it, the highest end FX CPU of it's time with double the cores can't beat the lowest end Ryzen CPU of today.

CPU - FX 8350 @ 4.5GHZ GPU - Radeon 5700  Mobo - M5A99FX Pro R2.0 RAM - Crucial Ballistix 16GB @ 1600 PSU - Corsair CX600M CPU Cooler - Hyper 212 EVO Storage - Samsung EVO 250GB, WD Blue 1TB

I see the 9590 got better performance in multi-threaded, but not by much tho. WelI I think moving up to Ryzen 5 would kick 9590's ass.

It's well worth the extra money. Plus you can't upgrade much if you go FX route. Those boards don't support the new memory and you can't upgrade the processor without upgrading the motherboard as well, along with the memory.
