Usb C hub help

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

Ok so I recently purchased an asus motherboard that has a usb c connector (Asus Strix z370f) and I was wonder if I were to purchase this usb c hub what ports would work. This is the hub: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Charging-Ethernet-MacBook-Chromebook/dp/B0773KD48G/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1515793687&sr=8-8&keywords=usb+c+hub. I know that using hdmi is most likely out but what other thing would and wouldn't work.

why is there the need for the USB C hub and not cheaper usb A?

This adapter has both sd card and micro sd card slots. An adapter for those alone would cost at least $20 and take up quite a bit of space.

not shure how they design this hub but expect everything to work except hdmi. why?

I was saying how since I was only using this on a usb c port the hdmi which relies on thunderbolt would not work.

gigabit LAN, SD card are runing fine with usb 3.0 speed, there would be no benefit for doing this with expensiv thunderbolt

the usb c port will just work like a normal USB 3.0 port

the adapter is great, because most of the other hubs don't use thunderbolt

if you build this product you want to keep cost down, why going for the "slower" ports of the hub with more expensiv thunderbolt?

just use thunderbolt where it is needed and do everything else with older, cheaer usb ICs.
