Looks to be tier 3, still pretty solid I'd say.

The RM550x would be a cheaper and still plenty good choice.

i have one of those, it's great. it's been working now for 4 months without any issues. however, the OP wants to use a 1070... isn't 550W a little weak for that?

Placing similar components into pcpartpicker, it shows as only using ~350w and even that's probably generous. 550w would be more than enough.

oh okay. i was expecting the OP to overclock his components however, and then it's a little risky..

Even extreme overclocking probably wouldn't use more than 50w extra.

really? okay.. i only have experience with overclocking systems from 2008-2010.. so i guess the newer components are way more efficient in comparison then. because my Core 2 Quad rig that went from 2.8 to 3.7ghz burned out a 500W psu...

A GTX 1070 uses up to 150-175 watts, a Ryzen 6 1600 maybe 80-100 watts overclocked  ....so yeah 550w is more than enough. His system won't go over 300-350 watts in power consumption.

@firelighter487 modern power supplies can actually provide almost all of those 500-550w on 12v from where the cpu and video card are fed from.  You probably had a power supply with a fake label, or an older design 500w that could only output 300w or so on 12v, leaving the rest up to 500w for 3.3v and 5v which are simply less used in modern computers.

That's bizarre. I'd say it died from either too much voltage being needed for that overclock, or it was a faulty PSU to begin with and it didn't like the overclock.

How many topics have you made? Is this two or three now?

Anyways, the RM550x would be plenty, the 650i is unnecessary.

Unless you want the monitoring feature and the ability to turn the fan on.

I meant wattage-wise but sure, those are cool things if you like them.

Yes

The X has a rifle bearing fan and no user control about any functions of the PSU. The RMi has many within Corsair Link and has an FDB fan.
