Air or aio cooling for r6 define? 8700k?

scanjet1000

Hello
Just curious on your opinions on what cooling I should get.
the r6 define has a top vent which is making me want to jump for a aio. Although the horror story's are turning me off. Was thinking of s36 fractal design or x62 kraken.
Air cooling I'm not entirely sure what the airflow would be in the case. But I've heard good things about scythe, macho rev b, or d15s.

Ye, please let me know your opinion.
Note: Won't be overclocking for 2-3 years when my cpu isn't the most speedy and will need improved. To make it last longer :P

Get air, there's no maintenance required and no risk of leaking.

AIO if you are into looks because they dont perform any better unless you grab a 360rad.

Air, get the Noctua cooler, it's a beast

ASUS X470-PRO • R7 1700 4GHz • Corsair H110i GT P/P • 2x MSI RX 480 8G • Corsair DP 2x8 @3466 • EVGA 750 G2 • Corsair 730T • Crucial MX500 250GB • WD 4TB

Air cooling is cheaper compared to x62 and over 280mm aio variants and performs exactly the same. If you want to pay more for aesthetics then go for it.

Uk, not really worried what I spend on cooling. (Nothing more pricy than the x62)

The question is, what is more important to you. Looks and performance, or noise levels and performance. There are only few AIOs that can claim to be silent-ish. Where as most top end air coolers are quieter.

@LoGiCalDrm I would prefer noise levels are more important.
If I got a aio, I would replace all the fans.
But ye i'm completely open to getting a air cooler.

You have space, and if money isn't issue... D15 with Chromax. Thats the best you can get. Best air cooler without color issues.

Depending on how much you prefer to spend, some good options include:

Kotetsu: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/7998TW/scythe-cpu-cooler-scktt1000

Mugen 5: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/8GBrxr/scythe-mugen-5-rev-b-512-cfm-cpu-cooler-scmg-5100

NH-U14S: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/DMjG3C/noctua-cpu-cooler-nhu14s

If you're not looking to push your cpu oc as far as possible, I wouldn't suggest heavily investing in an expensive cooler. Depending on your chip, you could hit 5ghz comfortably with a cooler like the Kotetsu. If you don't mind spending more, the NH-U14S would probably be the best option. It performs a bit better, is a breeze to mount, and completely clears the memory slots which makes it a bit easier to work around.
