Razer Project Linda: Laptop docking station for the Razer Phone

Linus' video:

The Verge video:

cgartenberg_150101_2230_0032.jpg

So far it looks like the screen can be used separately in selected applications but otherwise will just mirror the phone.

The laptop dock features:

  • Webcam
  • RGB keyboard
  • 1080p 13.3" screen - Touchscreen mentioned as planned in Linus video
  • Headphone jack
  • 1x USB-C
  • 1x USB-A ports
  • Extra 200GB storage
  • Internal battery to charge the phone and power itself

It uses the phone's speakers instead of having its own and Razer has designed a custom Android launcher to make use of tablet mode in applications. Third party USB peripherals are supported.

Hopefully we see an actual product out of this. I'd love for it to be able to be used on other phones apart from the Razer phone.

Idk why I'd ever prefer this over just a normal laptop.

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

From what I've heard it seems they want to put a 1440p 120 hz panel in that thing, which woild make it outrageously expensive.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

This idea of lcd trackpad isn't new. Toshiba had it about 14 years ago.

Oh yeah I love paying ultrabook prices for a larger screen that still won't let me run desktop apps.

I would buy the hell out of this for the right price. I love the idea of being able to chill on the couch and do chromebook type stuff with all the same apps I already have on my phone without needing to worry about syncing. Plus if it was charging my phone at the same time that would be awesome. Would be great for watching movies, youtube, etc. It's just a more comfortable, intuitive way to use the device that I carry and use every day when I don't actually need it to fit in my pocket. The price would be a huge factor though. I would want a really nice screen for watching media but at the end of the day it's just a screen and a battery. I wouldn't want to pay the cost of a laptop for it.

At first I thought this was a completely idiotic idea, who'd want a laptop that forces you to use a specific phone as the trackpad? Then I actually read it, and damn. That sounds dope as hell. Like one of those tablet/phablet keyboard you can get, taken to the next level and put on steroids. For a reasonable price I'd sure as shit get one if I had the razer phone

That's just the MultiDisplay support built into Android 8.0

This is literally just the Superbook or Openbook with a nicer Display (Higher res, higher refresh rate, and native DP Alt Mode instead of DisplayLink), a built in SD card rather than a slot for one, but no speakers or track pad...

Funny thing is, these existed for Windows phone. Only two differences:

Better placement of the phone

Worse OS when it comes to mouse and trackpad operability.

299-499 is about all i think People would pay for something like this Once you get past that its the same price as nice thin and light ultrabooks that run full windows and or Tablets like the surface.

It’s extremely well executed. Well done Razer on that front.

Not for me though, at least for now. When phones can run nearly anything and this dock is priced reasonably well, I may consider one of those, but it is interesting.

Linus also said speaker comes from the phone. Wait does that mean that Blade don't come with speakers? It that even a actual laptop where you can swap out the regular trackpad with the Razer phone or just a extremely expensive shell only for that phone.

Already exist.

I backed it. Tho I suppose you are not docking the phone into the trackpad area.

It's just a shell with a screen, keyboard, battery bank, built in SSD, and a USB hub.

Superbook uses DisplayLink for video. It's really not great for videos or games.

Watch Linus around it, he might stick it under his shirt and sneak it out.

The only reason I'm here is that I have homework that I don't want to do

Also the setup with the phone connected via cable is not appealing. It seems like a small change but it really affects the user experience to have to have this thing dangling off a laptop. Having it dock like the Razer version does is far more compelling.

Its just a large version of the Folio dock I saw in a magazine a while ago.
