Logan Paul Posts Footage of Apparent Suicide Victim on YouTube

A popular YouTuber named Logan Paul ended up filming a dead body found in suicide forest in japan.

My thoughts?  I initially thought that his intentions may have been indeed well.  But the more that I thought about it, the more that I ended up realizing the whole thing was pretty disrespectful.

 

First off, filming a dead body isn't cool, and while I realize that he may have wanted "proof", so someone can't call him a liar, that's not an adequate reason.

Second, why did he go to suicide forest in the first place?  To talk about the "haunted" aspects of it?  People have died there, I find that pretty distasteful in the first place.

Third, if he wanted to raise suicide awareness, he could have done it in a much better way.  Such as talking about his experiences with the incident while in his hotel room.

Fourth, the video was edited, this means that it wasn't a stupid "spur of the moment" situation.  There was plenty of time to go "hey, this might not be a good idea".

 

While I have no doubt that many are going to criticize him for being goofy in the situation, humor is a coping mechanism, one that I myself use.  So I won't give him shit for that.

 

While I am not going to say that this was for views, I am not going to rule that possibility out.

The man is either a complete idiot or a piece of shit.  While I will reserve judgement, I am probably in the minority here.

 

My biggest worry is that this whole mess will cause another adpocalypses to happen.

Those that have influence such as him has to be aware with the consequences of their actions, not only for themselves, but for everyone else.

 

Also, a YouTuber has re uploaded the video, with some cuts.

I don’t think this is tech news but nonetheless both Logan and his baby brother Jake Paul are both jerks and I can’t fathom as to why young people like them so much. To any parents with children watching these people, tell your children why they shouldn’t watch them and if they even try watching in secret, take your kid’s phone, tablet and computer and lock their gadgets away. Remember as a parent, it’s your house hence your rules. You pay the electricity and internet and you have the right to take away their gadgets or anything when they’re misbehaving or following a bad influence person. 

 

As for the video, I haven’t seen it as it was taken down other than a few clips from those who made commentaries about it and it shows that aside from the fact that Logan stole a music video, he’s a fame whore. And to kids in this forum who are fans of Logan Paul, suck it up if your parents took away your phone.

Me and my friends are planning a trip to Japan, and we have brought up going there. Why? Because it is an interesting place. It makes me curious what is so special about that place.

 

I would not record a dead body, laughing about it though, like Logan did.

(Didn't watch the video but apparently one of his friends said he didn't "feel very good" to which Logan replied "You never stand next to a dead body" and then laughed about it).

 

The Paul brothers truly are human shaped pieces of shit.

Imagine seeing a dead body, and laugh at it. I hope that the video was fake. It makes me sick that people genuinely look up to these horrible human beings.

Even if we assume that he is telling the truth that he only laughed because "he was in shock and did it to cope with the situation", he still made he active description, several hours later when editing the video, to include that part. Imagine being so out of touch with the world that you are completely OK with showing millions of people how you laugh at the body of someone who committed suicide.

EDIT: I watched the video as as soon as they found the body one of them even said to turn off the camera and head out, yet it seemed like he urged them to continue.

+1 Sick of "popular vloggers" in the news every single day. Only children watch those videos on the iPad they got from mommy and daddy with YouTube on autoplay so they don't have to watch their children. Yes, but you won't go there with the intention of 1) camping there and 2) vlogging about it, or at least that's what I would assume. Visiting it is fine, but they clearly meant to get some video material out of it. If they hadn't found the body they probably would have talked about how "spooooky" it was and maybe have faked some scared reactions to small noises. Which would be harmless, if not for the fact that the "haunted forest" reputation comes from people committing suicide there - meaning all of the above basically amounts to making light of suicide.

As DeFranco said earlier before this "broke" among critical people he was already well over 500k likes so his core audience gives absolutely 0 shits about it.

 

This is what people (well, Kids really, but still) want to see. Is youtube going to grow a pair and punish or run out one of his most profitable cash cows? If his channel after his half-heartead apology it's still considered advertiser friendly are they going to relax those rules then?

Sounds like perfect for advertisers for me if it wasn't for this pesky controversy. Let's face it: they were probably fighting over to appear on Paul's videos and he was already highly controversial before becoming a nuisance to his neighbors and filming people without consent to the extend that he actually fucking partially dox one of them at least.

 

The correct assessment is that advertisers hate the fact that youtube can't seem to provide ANY kind of curation at all and insists on doing everything automatically so any "gotcha!" moment that makes the rounds among the press makes them look bad for purchasing ad space. But the ads themselves? They fucking love their reach, even the controversial channels and videos.

Most of them don't have 16M subs. People like LP have enough influence to cause upsets on the internet as a whole, especially since they have been publicly endorsed by youtube for some time. I'd say it's tech news on the same level as the swatting incident and, say, facebook policy updates.
