can 2 gtx 970s run 2 1440p 144hz monitors ?

hi guys, currently i have a 1080p monitor and 2 gpus (gigabyte gtx 970 windforce) , 8 gb ram(soon to be 16gb),and a 5930k (@4ghz). its a lot of power for a single 1080p panel so i think about switching to a dual 1440p monitor setup. can the hardware listed above drive all new games at a reasonable framerates and settings?

i found a really great deal at a shop near me for 2 gaming monitors at 550 euros ,therefor  i think about buying them,

sure it can  just some games might be bad optimized for sli therefore they will run a little worse than the others. 2x 970 is  almost 1070. which has no problem with 1440p as for 2x 1440p in  one game?  thats less than 4K so yeah i think you should be able to run new games at medium settings with reasonable framerate though u wont be anywhere near the 144fps for 144hz monitor in any AAA games

2 1440p 144hz monitor in super wide display? You need a 1080ti for that. With only 1 monitor, running all games at 144fps average (so it will dip sometimes) will take medium to high settings, while a terribly optimized one (quite a lot for SLI, some games dont even use a single card well) might not do it even at low settings.

 

The only good news is that if you play PUBG, you can achieve 1440p 144Hz with good settings like medium because the only optimization work was done on SLI and CF support.

ok thanks for the help,but i want another opinion just to be definitely sure before pulling the trigger and buying the monitors

Just quick check: do you want to play suround? or 1x 1440p monitor gaming + 1x 1440p monitor as second monitor for all other stuff while gaming

the monitors are not ultrawide screens ,they are standard 16:9 not  21:9 ,therefor its not that demanding as you say

if i can play surrond ,then i will but if not ,i have to use the second monitor for other stuff . can a 5930k and 2gtx 970 run all games at 1440p and 140 fps using anly one screen for gaming ?

check the video in my older post, there yo ucan see framerates of your 970 sli setup for AAA titles with ultra details

yeah but i have gpus that support g sync ,these monitors support freesync . i was thinking about selling my two cards for 400 euros and buying a used gtx 1080 for around 500-550.will a have a noticeable framerate difference ?

As it looks like ,its not that big of a difference

Dual monitor gaming generally isn't supported. Mostly because using two monitors for one game means you have the bezels of the monitors right in the centre of the game.

Please, refrain from linking videos from this channel to prove your point, those benches are pointless and inaccurate.

I personally talked to the guy some time ago and he admitted to take benchmark scores in his videos from various sites all over the internet, rather than doing them himself accurately with a legit testing methodology.
GTX 970 SLI is not a good idea for 1440p 144Hz gaming, they're heavily limited by VRAM and their performance in SLI isn't too good either, have a look here:

My high-clocked 980Ti is 9% faster than two 970s in SLI at 1440p, it also has more usable VRAM and no multi-GPU issues. SLI scaling is pretty bad (around 50% performance gain from adding the second card on average)

So you really want 2 970´s  i dont think this is a good idea because:
1. SLI does not work with every game.
2. You limit yourself to 4 GB V-ram which will become a problem more and more. 
3. Think about the extra Power you need to run a 2nd graphics card and also the thermals and noise.

4. 970 is one generation in the past and pascal had a huge performance boost compared to maxwell 

And instead of 2 1440p displays if you want a setup like this better go for a 21:9 ultra wide with 3880 * 1440 resolution if your into ultra wide gaming or for productivity applications.

I said super wide because I forgot the word 'surround'. I do mean playing with 2 monitors in surround mode is a bit too much for your setup so turning down settings is necessary. 2 1440p monitors have more pixels than a single 1440p ultrawide monitor at 21:9, and not even a 1070 is enough for such monitor at 60hz.

If you want decent video settings mmh maybe a 1080 or 1080 TI. But really look into some ultrawides better.

To game at both displays at once, you need a 1080Ti IMO.

guess so because 2560*1440*2=7372800 pixels to push 60 times per second that is nearly equal to 4K.
