FAKE GTX 960 4GB review

fake960comparison.thumb.jpg.2a860b516c23261063e2a098c97f6854.jpg

I bought a Chinese knock off GTX 960 4gb, thought it was too good to be true, it was only $43, it was too good to be true.

It is really a GTS 450 rev2 heres a legit one,

and heres mine

heres heaven benched,

fake960unigineheavenbenchresults.thumb.jpg.f5a6d6a8631caa9eb3d5efd2da3979e7.jpg

GTAV would play on lowest settings for a few minutes then softcrash, I kept trying and it hard crashed but while it ran it was around 60fps.
PUBG would load up the start screen, as soon as I tried to load into a game it would softcrash, caused a few different hard crashes on repeated attempts, main menu idled at 13fps.

CSGO would actually play without crashing, but it was also hovering around 60fps.

a real 4gb 960 would have much higher performance.

5a4806d873a90_IMG_20171230_1325361.thumb.jpg.5b5b537dec9f3b5504dae99ebb0c7b20.jpgThe hdmi port on the bracket is just a square cutout.

The card itself is surprisingly sturdy though, the shroud and all. The fans are at 100% all the time. The cooler is literally just a chunk of aluminum someone sliced up fins into similar to ltt's attempt at a cpu cooler.

worked fine for just a video card, going to try to flash the bios to the proper bios, it was actually using all 4gb during benching so that was interesting.

The ebay seller is yunt2016. So buyer beware, this isn't what it seems. I reported it to ebay I'll see what happens, really don't want to pay to ship it back to china. I'd rather just throw it away or use it as a coaster.

Shroud still looks better than Gigabyte's 10 series

yeah its also a lot thicker plastic and has supports in it for rigidity, like I said its way more sturdy than I was expecting with build quality.

Can you take some in-depth PCB shots showcasing the MOSFETs, memory, and chokes? Or is it just a reference PCB?

not from the website, but the disk that comes with it somehow makes GeForce experience recognize it, somewhat. it recognizes that its installed and displays the name, but that's about it, it will say the drivers up to date, and as I mentioned games don't really agree with it.

Wow. That just goes to show that when you see a too good to be true price on eBay, it is almost always too good to be true.

But it looks like you had some fun with the card so it wasn't a total waste. :P

that's not the problem, at least now if someone googles those cards, this thread will show up in a google search so they know its fake.

don't know, would have to take it apart and see the die like I did. maybe someone else has already done the 970? I personally couldn't find a specific case, I found similar fakes, but they were like 750ti's that were really like 250's or something like that.

Wow, just wow......is all I can say.:o That's why I prefer to buy a used card locally, if there's any issue, I can contact the seller directly to trash out a solution. Been seeing a lot of GPU sales lately, a GTX1080 Ti at about 610USD (local dollar to USD) is mighty tempting.

It wasn't my intention to imply that you'd fallen for the ruse, rather I was amazed at the gall of these sellers (selling a Fermi as a Maxwell is just WOW). I was merely commenting on buying used where I can meet up with sellers (would have their cell phone number and their forum callsigns/nicks).

I've got the exact same card but flashed with a GT 640 BIOS, I could install GT640 drivers but when trying to run even CS:S or COD4(The original modern warfare from 2007) i could barely get 10FPS

its not the driver that needs changing, you have to try to use gpuz to flash the bios to a 450 (rev 2) for this specific card, to verify what card you actually have before you flash it, remove the heat sink and clean the thermal paste off, the die should say what it is.
