1050ti for ultrawide?

MeatFeastMan

I'm thinking of buying a monitor in order to play project cars 2, which is a sim racing game. I have a tv currently but it doesn't quite do it for project cars 2. I want to be able to go higher than 60, even if it means turning settings down. I was thinking of getting this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-34UM69G-Ultrawide-DisplayPort-Freesync/dp/B0716NRP8C

I need a large monitor, just like my tv, however...I don't want to stay at 60 fps and I prefer a faster response rate like the 1ms on this one, especially in a racing game. Every advantage counts in a sim racing game. Also, the fact that the monitor chosen is freesync and I have a 1050ti, how will that pan out? Is there any issues with that or is it fine to use?

Anyone know what kind of fps numbers I'd be getting with my current pc? The games I play are: BF1, Overwatch, Project Cars 2, F1 2017, Destiny 2. Will I have to turn my settings down to get it to the 75hz on the monitor chosen? I presume 2560x1080 is quite demanding. My pc specs are below:

CPU: AMD FX 9590

GPU: ASUS Strix Geforce GTX 1050ti OC

Cooler: Noctua NH-D15

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16gb DDR3 1600mhz

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990FXA UD3 R5

PSU: Corsair AX860i

Case: Corsair Carbide Air 740

I appreciate any imput, thanks :) And no I'm not upgrading my cpu or gpu for now. Maybe in a few years time. If I have to go to low settings, I will go to low settings.

Eh probably no. Project Cars 2 runs at 1080p 60fps average with high settings, sometimes dipping below that. 1080p ultrawide will make 60fps target only doable with low or even minimal settings, in which things look horrible.

Ew... FX 9590 cancer :/

Any ways NO 34 inches ultrawide featuring the resolution of 2560x1080p is worth it, screen is far too pixelated... too much physical space for too little virtual space.

if you want 2560x1080p go for the LG29UM68-P instead which is 29 inches and actually has great pixel density, it also can be overclocked to 80hz to 85hz through nVidia control panel.

Regardless your CPU is so bad that it will be as much of an issue as your GPU at getting all 80 or more frames, not the best solution for ultrawide gaming specially at simulators which usually asks for strong single thread performance which your CPU has not.

yes you will.

AAAAND you won't be able to run this monitor in 75Hz mode. AFAIK it only works 75Hz if FreeSync is working. Which it won't as you have a 1050Ti.

nonetheless that is a great Ultrawide monitor for the price.

EDIT: my bad

Depending on your luck with the panel you can get up to 90hz out of it, refresh rate is not bound in any way to free sync.

oh yea my bad. even without overclocking this should work at 75Hz.

for some reason I remembered my problem about not getting 75Hz using single link DVI and mixed that up with FreeSync over HDMI.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have a GTX1060 6gb with the LG29UM68-P, and PC2 runs in medium-high settings, at about 60-70 FPS;
