Greetings! :D

I've decided to move to mITX!

Whoo! What a ride this is gonna be!

Let me get you in on the plan! I want something which is:

  1. Small (as small as it can possibly be with room for semi-standard components)
  2. Water cooling friendly
  3. Minimalistic and custom designed to fit my parts
  4. Hella good lookin'

Specs (may change):

Intel Core i7-6700k - OWNED

Asus Strix 270i - OWNED

G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3000 MHz 16 GB - OWNED

Asus Strix GTX 1080 - OWNED

Corsair SF600 - OWNED

Generic Samsung 128 gb SSD - OWNED

Seagate 1tb laptop hybrid drive - OWNED

NZXT Hue+ - OWNED

CUSTOM SFF CASE - NOT YET BUILT ;)

I might quite possibly do a custom water cooling loop in here at some point if I by miracly come by some money, but as the situation is now, I can barely afford to do this mod ;)

Here are some renders of the finished case! ENJOY!

Progress of today:

I finished making the mockups and decided that I was going to go for a dan case a4 kind of layout with the motherboard in one compartment and the gpu in another with a riser in between. Then I started laying out the motherboard/psu tray on a piece of plexiglas because I thought I'd be cool with a seethrough motherboard tray... But... Of course I dropped it and it broke :C

Progress of today continued:

Since the last motherboard tray I made broke I decided to make the new one out of 0.7 mm steel just like the rest of the case, and then I figured; It isn't a completely bad thing that I dropped the plexiglas motherboard tray, because now I have a chance to improve the design! And that is exactly what I did... Then I repeated the process of laying out the design on a piece of steel, cutting it out and cleaning up the edges. Then I pulled out the metal sheet bender and I proceeded to bend the still flat piece into its final form and sand out all the imperfections. Here it is!

Right before I went to sleep last night i sat in my bed and thought about yesterdays work... Then I almost cried out a loud "F*CK!" as I realised that I'd made an inverted version of the motherboard tray ? So today I've started the day off fixing that... And to my great suprise it almost came out better than it was before! I won't go into detail, but here are some photos!

I've done a lot of work since my last update!

I don't feel like explaining everything, so here are the photos I took! Alltough I will say that I made the mistake of bending some things in the wrong order - that has been fixed in the last photo.

I fixed on the bottom dust filter and the top mesh with plastic padding, and I made sure to put loads on there so I could sand it down later and get a nice finish. All this time I didn't realise that it was glass fiber infused plastic padding, so I just spend a full day of work sanding down everything ? I also assembled the entire case and all of it's components with magnets to see how it is going to look and oh boy am I pleased with the result so far! Please keep in mind that this is far from finished.

Thanks! And well building these kinds of cases is WAY to much work to even make close to a profit... If there seems to be interest, I could make an attempt at making it a real case and thereby starting my own company! That'd be nice... :)

Check if theres a university or college with a beefy machine shop around, I'm sure a high powered cnc would help production.

Btw, how did you get the brushed look?

I'll do ? It's VERY easy... I just took some sandpaper and brushed it along one axis in long straight movements... There were some places I couldn't reach with the sandpaper, so I used a metal brush there... Not as effective but it can get in tighter corners without the brushed lines looking "bent"

Well well... I just got back to the shop and I took some time to think about the whole thing and I decided that all the mistakes I've made will bother me too much so I'm going to build another case from the ground up... Let's call this one the P1!

Enjoy!

Nevermind! Started and realised how much work it was! I worked out a plan to save the old case.

Because it looks better while I'm not actually using it ? I'm probably going to change it to intake when the system is installed in the final case.
