Corsair K70 LED problem still exists? Calling all K70 owners

lufihengr

I was looking at some reviews on the K70 and a lot of them had LED's dying within weeks of use. Does this issue still exist?

I've had mine for a few weeks now and it's fine.  I read the same thing as you after purchasing it which has me a bit worried...I guess we'll see within the coming months whether mine holds up or not.  From most of what I've read 1-3 months seems to be the time frame for most people.  Part of my reason for picking this board was the dedicated media keys, I don't want to have to hit an Fn key just to play/pause, skip or stop.

People with issues are the ones who mostly post about problems regarding their K70 backlight issues.. If there's less than a hundred of them, it could be safe to say that the problem is only present at about 1% of all the people who bought the awesome keyboard :D

I'm also planning to buy the K70 but with Brown switches :)

I have found quite a few people who have had this issue. Some had over 20 LED's dead.

Yes. They've done it countless times if you post on the product forums.

  • 2 months later...

Hi lufihengr,

the problem still seems to exist.

I bought my K70 (MX Brown, Blue LEDs) in Norway about the time you posted,

and started having dead LEDs after two months.

Dead LEDs are coming in by the week now, just lost another one today, now 5 in total.

This will not be the last one, according to people who have this problem.

I just created this account to inform you guys.

Built a decent, quiet gaming rig / Steam Box equivalent: i5-4670k OC • MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming • 8 GB Corsair 1600 MHz • EVGA GTX 780 OC w / ATX • Fractal Design Define R4, Windowless • Samsung EVO 250 GB SSD • Be Quiet! Dark Tower Pro 10 650w (worth every penny) • Noctua NH-D14 • Corsair K70 (MX Brown) ... but i am an Apple fanboy at heart. hi lufihengr,

AFAIK the manufacturer is different, also the quality control with the new RGBs has to be,

there are three times as many LEDs.

Lets hope they will be affordable - i suppose in Scandinavia they could be priced up to 300 Dollars.

I will keep you informed about my customer service experience with Corsair,

i did the RMA request today 8 (over my online reseller). I sure hope i don't have to send the Keyboard to the Netherlands on my own costs.

Hey spwath,

i also really love the keyboard, BUT:

what will happen - IF it happens - is this, it has been described a lot over the internet:

1. Within 6-10 weeks after purchase (usually around two months) you will encounter a dead LED.

2. New, dead LEDs will join the dead one in increasing number over the next days / weeks.

3. You will end up with multiple dead LEDs, at least a handful.

Keep us informed!

spwath,

be careful about the amazon reviews. They get written a short time after purchase.

Look at the high-rated negative review - it has over 20 replies from people who have the same problem. So it seems to be a rare, but still known problem.

Of course you are never alone with a problem, and you will always find a forum bitching about a specific issue, and it makes it feel like it is widespread, when really it is not. But i feel it is a different issue this time, because many people exchanged their K70 allegedly multiple times and got the same problem again.

I for myself will just wait and see how Corsair handles this issue. Stuff can be faulty - the customer service makes and breaks this product for me.

1. Just speculating! I live in Norway, stuff is expensive here, so 1300-1600 kr can be expected if the K70 sells for 1100kr.

2. I definitely will! I contacted my reseller (dustinhome.no) first to see if they offer me a quick replacement.
