2000 dollar portable PC

IAnthonyFX

i came up with this built (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gzNXCy) and I have a 2000 dollar budget. I do not need that much storage, 500 gb is good for me. The reason of this build is because i am ending my studies in the states, so i am moving away back home (Peru) where things of this nature are very expensive. Then I am moving to europe, where i will be traveling a lot. I want a portable system, and to "future" proof it for 4 years. I also care about how the system looks and do not care too much about how hard the initial built is (although removing the graphics card will be a thing when transporting it). If you have any suggestions, such as what case, power supply, cpu, etc etc please let me know. I would like to dive into 4k gaming.

The portal is one of the worst performing and largest cases on the market, I would go with something like a node 202.

Also the z370i from asus is waaay better

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

All you need to do is delid and maybe do a simple mesh mod for gpu breathability.  You won't need to remove the gpu while traveling either.

Nope, this guy (has wifi..)

The asus board is insanely better.  It has better heatsinks, more m.2 slots (with a good cooler to boot) and several quality of use upgrades.

Because performance-wise you won't notice that much of a difference in boot times or in games. You can go for it but it is mostly a space saver in small cases.

You have to get the link PCPartpicker provides and not just copy it from the address bar. Nobody can see what you've build.

I second @herman mcpootis build – I might look for a different cooler and jump on Noctua's NH-L9i but that's probably it and you might want to check if VRM cooling on that AsRock board is sufficient especially in a tiny case. If you don't want to OC the CPU to its max potential you should be fine though. The rest of the build is pretty much what I'd suggest you.

You can also have a look at the other cases in Silverstone's Raven series like the RVZ03 (which looks better imho) or from their Milo series the ML08 which comes with an optional handle. You could even go really excentric and go with one of those boutique SFF cases like the NCase M1, Zaber Sentry or Dan Cases A4. They are really pricey and you might have to recheck compatibility of your components but they are so damn cool. ridiculously small and have clever layouts.

Edit:

Or have a look at the really nice looking Phanteks Enthoo Evolv Shift series.

I also have to correct myself: the NH-L9i is not officially suited for the 8700k. LH-L12S and LH-L9x65 do though.

This is what I'd suggest:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz 6-Core Processor  ($379.99 @ B&H)
CPU Cooler: Noctua - NH-L9x65 33.8 CFM CPU Cooler  ($48.95 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI - Z370I GAMING PRO CARBON AC Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($162.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill - Trident Z 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory  ($203.88 @ OutletPC)
Storage: Intel - 600p Series 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive  ($189.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Video Card: Zotac - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB Mini Video Card  ($712.89 @ B&H)
Case: Phanteks - ENTHOO EVOLV SHIFT Mini ITX Tower Case  ($118.98 @ Newegg)

Buy a good notebook/laptop - may need to up the budget a bit. Travels very well. Will have more than enough power for most stuff. Not great for gaming.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Considering your budget that PSU is not really matching the rest of the system and that AiO is ok but not more. Since all Ryzen 7 are technically the same it's a waste of money to go for a 1800X since a 1700X with little OC (you really want to OC Ryzen) will perform just as well.

Since top of the line air coolers perform just as well as AiO I stick with my suggestion.

External GPU with Thunderbolt will do the trick with gaming.

Yeah a bit more but that would be my ideal setup.  I love the Evolv case and the Asus Z370 is the best mini ITX board.  Awesome man, any pics of it setup?
