Android Oreo - Possibly Knocking Out Wireless Routers

So it looks like the Android Oreo 8.0 and 8.1 updates may be causing issues with mesh and, in some cases, non-mesh wireless routers. The cause isn't exactly known yet but there are plenty of reports with people who have mesh routers and Oreo 8.0 or 8.1 who've reported issues with the signal randomly to drop or even the router to just crash or reboot completely. Google seems to be looking into the issue though but nothing has been reported back at this time. While most issues have been reported coming from the Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL there are reports that other phones that have received Oreo in some form are also having similar issues.

The issue seems to be quite widespread, with reports on Google's Pixel Phone Help forum, reddit, and Netgear's forums. Most accounts of problems seem to be coming from people using Netgear's Orbi routers, but other reports are trickling in from those with other mesh systems, including routers by Cisco and eero, with a small number people using non-mesh access points affected as well.

Google is looking into the issue from their end, though. In the support forum thread, our often-cited support guru Orrin is reaching out to those affected individually for bug reports. In the meantime, those with the issue will just have to wait on either Google or their router manufacturers to fix things.

yay for more issues related to the Pixel 2!

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Well it's just mostly reports on the Pixel 2 because that's one of the first phones to get Oreo.

There are people who've reported issues on Oreo on other phones as well.

oh have companies actiually rolled out Oreo finaly? xD i know im not getting it at least -_-

All I can see from any Pixel news is that the camera is king or there is yet another issue.

Most likely down to the OS instead of the phone itself, think it should just wait until Google finishes their investigation instead of jumping on the "ohh xdd google pixel 2 flop xdddd" bandwaggon.

This is why I can't go back to Android. I remember having the S5 and G2 back in the day and right when they both updated to 5.0, their batteries went to crap for no reason whatsoever. I mean, this is what happens when you lend out an OS to hundreds of manufacturers. Inconsistency.

Camera is good but there are better options like the S8 and iPhone X that don't have all the dismal issues

This is kinda weird, I don’t see how the phone can cause an issue with the router.

At least the true cause is found out. Imagine being on tech support when all you hear is the customer shouting "not working" and give zero explanations on why it's not working.

Good thing I don't have a Pixel (or Android Oreo) as I currently use BT Whole Home WiFi Mesh routers at home.

Same here, one of the Nexus 5x's at my house is running stock Oreo, and no issues have occurred with my Synology router, granted this issue seems more  targeted at mesh routers. If I had to guess, this issue would have to do with Oreo using a network feature that is either implemented incorrectly by some brands (And just hasn't been an issue yet just by luck), or Oreo's implementation of a feature conflicts with certain methods that a brand may use for said feature. The question is who is truly at fault and where the issue lies.

I've been noticing my router at home and at work disconnecting randomly all the time since the Oreo update. However those routers are not from the brands listed in this post.

I wonder if this is the cause of my recently even more unstable internet (I think it was 2 weeks my Sony XZ got 8.0). It typically drops out/goes to a crawl every 2 or 3 days but recently it drops out every 12-36 hours. Gawd dammit, I don't know as my internet was shit n unstable to begin with :P.
