Intel Core i7 8700HQ leaked specs

NumLock21

Leaked specs on the new mobile Intel processor, Core i7 8700HQ based on the Coffee Lake architecture, comes with 6 cores and has hyperthread. Based clock and turbo boost has been lowered when comparing to the Core i7 7700Q in exchange for the 2 extra cores. It's still built on the 14nm process and has a 45w TDP. Do note that these are early specs and it might change when it's finalized and official launch sometime in 2018.

Single thread drop is interesting since that was basically the only thing separating mobile from desktop. Kinda salty about the GPU upgrade though from my 7700HQ

That's an F in the profile pic

Why is that, IPC is the exact same and the newer CPU runs on lower clocks. Makes complete sense.

Because when you’re running 1080 SLI at 1080p you kind of want the single thread bump. I’d imagine a bottleneck at 2.9 GHz

lets see if this performs better or worse, entirely posible this will be behind in some cases

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Q stands for Quad core and 8700HQ isn't a quad core, they should call it 8700HH or 8700HC.

Given it's on the new process and the way the Turbo works for Intel, it'll probably come out with the same gaming scores in the places that can't leverage all of the cores, however ahead in the places that can. And it'll give a lot more life to those gaming laptops, though it'll be interesting to see how well that helps in gaming situations. General battery life will be up.

Marketing above all my friend. People know HQ and other terms do not have that recognition. At least that would be my explanation

I know that Q wasn't added until very recently because back then all mobile processor even Core i7 were dual cores with HT. This make it have 4 threads but not a true quad core, so the letter Q was never needed. It was when actual quad cores  i7 and i5 starting to appear, that they started to use the letter Q, to tell the dual core i5 and i7 apart from the quad core i5 and i7.

Even the first gen i7s had mobile quad cores, however the technology was not up to par, constant thermal throtteling even at 1.7GHz in large laptops: https://ark.intel.com/products/49024/Intel-Core-i7-740QM-Processor-6M-cache-1_73-GHz

Only in the Kaby Lake / Skylake Era did the i5 mobile lineup receive a quad core version.

Some symbols according to Intel:

U -> Ultra low voltage

M -> Socketed mobile version (not found anymore in most cases)

H -> High performance graphics

There is also T, E, and K.

T - has a lower TDP vs the H, and slight higher TDP when comparing to the U

E - Embedded

K - Unlocked for overclocking

While most boards start out at $200, some got discount and went at a much lower price. Comparing the 2 platforms, X99 and Z170, price difference wasn't that much. It all came down to speed or the 2 extra cores.

Also that 8700HQ won't be mainstream.

The average mainstream user would not have liked or benifited from the 6 cores the 5820K offered, most applications outside of rendering/compute cannot deal with more than 4 cores with notable gain. The single thread performance of the 4790K would have been much more useful.

Techically they had a 6 core "Laptop" a number of years ago. However at 10kg total weight it was really stretching the definition of "Laptop". Only $4500!

CFL hexacores hitting the mainstream were planned all along. Ryzen only pushed the launch up a few months.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.
