Apple does slow down your iPhone.....but its not what you think....

So yes, Apple does slow down your phone if your battery has degraded to the point that the phone would not be able to provide the required power to keep the system running during some tasks. If you remember not too long ago people complained about iPhones just randomly shutting off while in use, apparently this was due to their batteries simply being so degraded that at some point in their normal operation, there simply was not enough juice. 

 

If you will also recall Apple issued an update to "fix" this and apparently to do that, Apple scaled back the performance of iPhones with poor battery health to prevent them from simply turning off during normal use. 

 

So no, Apple does not slow down your iPhones deliberately simply because a new one comes out....but they do slow down the performance if your battery becomes warn out and degraded.....or at least that is what this article says.

Cool feature like power saving mode in windows but Apple does stop optimizing IOS updates after 2 years for your iPhone. Which also falls right into the length of Apple Care

Interesting. I'm glad they made battery replacements on the iPhone X easy and inexpensive when you remove the back gla...... oh. 

 

EDIT: Seems you can replace it from to front. Wasn't aware of that.

You can replace an iPhone 10 battery in less than 10min and only for the price of the battery. 

 

Entry is from the front glass. Remove bottom two screws> heatup the edges of the display evenly> wedge the glass and pull up> open the front panel as you would a book> unhook the row of cables> remove battery adhesive tabs> insert new adhesive tabs> insert new battery and connect> reconnect cables> seal phone back up.

It does seem like Apple products are generally good and nice to work with when they're supported, but as soon as support is dropped, they seem to go out of their way to make it complete crap. Even today I remembered just how annoying it is to reinstall OSX on an older Mac system. It's faster and easier to do it illegitimately than it is legitimately. To some extent, it can be near impossible to do it legitimately if you don't have another Mac.

My 6S battery was just below the 80% charge capacity with almost 600 charge cycle before I replaced it with new battery 2 months ago. Weirdly enough i never had any slow down issue back then until only recently when they've been pushing out so many updates lately

Yes the back glass is absurdly expensive, but yes access to all phone components is from the front.

My iPhone 6s Plus also have a battery at about 80% capacity but I have not replaced the battery and have no slowdowns as of yet.

I had an iphone 5 did the same thing but it was like 6 years old.... I knew it was the battery problem that my phone was always shutting off so quickly after 30min-1hr I mean it was plugged in basically 16 hours a day for 6 years But still the phone never slowed down I just thought the hardware isn't good enough to support the new software... Did a total reset with the original ios it came with it was much smoother compared to the newer one but that was expected but after 6 years of continuous recharging subconsciously I would think I just need to replace the battery

To be fair, it's about the same for most flagships now days, only the vast, vast majority will be opened from the back. I'd prefer that in most cases as the risk of damaging the screen, which is generally more expensive to replace, is higher than if you were opening a phone from the back. 

 

I do wish more phones would come out that were entirely held together by screws and not have everything glued shut. You'd miss waterproofing, but ease of repair would make up for it to some people who aren't accident prone. 

 

Worst thing I've ever (attempted to) repaired was a 7th gen iPod Touch. The adhesive holding the screen down is stronger than the frame it's stuck to.

Not sure that is better in any way........

 

So don't say Apple is bad for doing x when no Android Flagship does any different and take no measures to keep the phone usable when the batteries do degrade.

I do wish more phones would come out that were entirely held together by screws and not have everything glued shut. You'd miss waterproofing, but ease of repair would make up for it to some people who aren't accident prone. 

 

Worst thing I've ever (attempted to) repaired was a 7th gen iPod Touch. The adhesive holding the screen down is stronger than the frame it's stuck to. 

Yeah, but no other phone manufacturer slows down the phone because of a battery going bad.

yeah that was my experience too. i even did a fresh format of the phone afterwards and it feels much slower than before. 3D touch app switching feels sluggish, apps need to reload all the time. I have minimal app usge bsides Twitter, Discord and Whatsapp. are you on the latest 11.2.1 btw?

Slowing it down is better than just letting it crap out though. Sort of like complaining that a system throttles itself when it gets too hot rather than just letting itself shut down without trying to cope with it first.

I'm running 11.2. 

 

There is a possibility for a jailbreak for 11.2 and I did not want to go back to 11.1.2 because my 6s Plus feels a lot better on 11.2 than it did on 11.1.2 

 

My 6s Plus performs so well Apple is not making it easy for me to want to upgrade. Its still an amazing phone.
