Listening to music isn't an issue as long as there's no vocals, afaik.

What worked for me (then again I barely got by so take my advice with a grain of salt) was just studying until I was done with a chapter/part, taking a little break, and then moving on. Repetition was key to me, but just do whatever works for you.

Just make sure you're actually studying/learning though, and not just sitting somewhere with some papers :P

Also, the basics, like don't have any distractions, make sure you're not tired, stay hydrated and fed, be comfortable but not too comfy, etc...

By post-secondary you should already have your study habits optimized for your own learning pace.

I always crammed the night before and did pretty well. I find I remember most of what I learn through out the course.

Every person is different. We can give tips that work for us, but they might not work for you, just like we can't say that something you're doing is wrong because it might work better for you than it would for us. Comprende? :P

I'd make notes about what we learned, and I'd scan through my old tests. Anything I didn't get right I'd study.

Listening to music almost always distracts me, but it may work for you.

I generally like to summarize everything I've learned over the semester into a single document from five to ten pages, and then taking that with me wherever I go. I can't recommend studying with friends. I tried this before my math exam last year, but we just ended up playing games and making jokes and just being a waste of space at the library. (I still did quite well, but that was because the exam was super easy, not because of my study habits.) During the week before a major assessment, I like to go over that document for around an hour a day or so.

Do not do anything school-related on the night before the exam. Go for a walk or hang out with friends or something. It'll help you take things easy and avoid a meltdown on exam day. You can play games, but try to get them out by 10:00 pm or so. Sleep in and have a good breakfast, but don't eat anything that might make you sick. Bring a water bottle and a few good sharpened pencils.

If you've paid attention in class, you should still do well on the exam, regardless of what you do.

...no. Just the opposite. Now they push you through even if you can't do basic math, just so you won't feel bad.

Don't rely on notes with regular type faces. Either you hand write them or use an irregular type face . There's actually a study in Harvard that shows texts using irregular type faces is much more remembered than normal type faces (Times New Roman, Helvetica, Lucida Console, etc). I don't know if you're a fan of bitter things but I suggest eating 75-85% dark chocolate (preferably sugar free). The some chemicals in chocolate makes you alert and focused more than coffee without the coffee jitters.

Also. reading with your voice makes it easier to remember than reading with your eyes but don't do it in a library.

There is more that meets the eye
I see the soul that is inside

the study method that always worked for me (mind you i never really did study, high school sucked, and college was a breeze) was study one chapter/section at a time, no more than 1hr of griding at a time without a minimum of 10min break. once you are done a chapter, do a quick once-over of it again before moving onto the next.

Write things down, it will help you remember. Also get a lot of sleep and it always helps to study before you go to bed so that you can remember things. I usually get a study guide from my teachers though and I usually get my dad to read them to me like flashcards(it gives you an idea of what you need to practice).

The only reason I'm here is that I have homework that I don't want to do

Not quite, but it was pretty apparent that you're young, as is most of the forum, so it was a solid guess.

What actually worked for during my final year at university is to teach the content to someone else in your class. Preferably someone who struggles a bit

Teaching is the best way of learning things. This actually worked very well for myself and my friend who i revised with i came of one exam with 74% in the test (Which is a 1st at my uni) and he came out with 62% (Which is a 2:1) and he had a real hard time with the course content whereas me i found it really easy as it was all logical to me (however i suck with tests)
