At 0:40 in one of the videos OP linked, you can see a little yellow-and-blue shield on the game icon. This means that if you run the program, it will attempt to elevate itself to administrative-level privileges. That little popup you get that you always click 'Yes' to without paying attention literally gave that software the permission to do anything it wanted to your computer, up-to and including modification or replacement of core operating system files.
