Help me

Go to solution Solved by Tiberiusisgame,

I agree with the call for a 4790k because you have a Z97 board. You can OC it, you'll have 8 threads, it'll keep for a few years before you upgrade your graphics card.

I have a gtx 1050 2gb,8gb ram, and a pentium g3258 @4.2ghz.What cpu, mobo, and ram should I get ? I have a 350 budget my gpu is fine for now unless you think something different tell me?

depending on your current motherboard, perhaps just a new cpu ?
the 4690 (or 4690k if you're into overclocking and have a z97 board) is a really good option for you.

You don't really have to build a whole new system, just upgrade your CPU.

no I ment motherboard (model number, chipset...)
I don't see any benefits to going to a 1151 cpu. a 4790(i7) or 4690 (i5)
is a MUCH better option for your money than switching platforms.

By switching to a 1151 socket and board not only you will have to switch board and cpu but also (yes, there are some ddr3 options, but they are scarce) switch ram for ddr4.
for 350$ it is not even close to being worth it compared to a used 4690(k)-4790(k)

here, look at the price :
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-i7-4790-i7-4790-3-6GHz-LGA1150-SR1QF-8M-Cache-Processor-CPU/182949598346?hash=item2a98a5548a:g:ERUAAOSwbwJaKGQD

also, with the money left, if you don't already have an SSD. well, there's a good upgrade for you too !

There's no point in upgrading to LGA 1151, just find a used i7 4770K or 4790K on Ebay.

Why sell the board? just upgrading the CPU to an i7 4770K or 4790K would make so much more sense in this case.

bro, I own a 4790k and I don't expect to have to change it for at least 4-5 years still

by then you'll have much better prices for DDR4 and much better cpu's worth the switch.

He can add another after selling the 8gb ddr3 alone + bonus from the cpu & mobo.

You need to make peace with reality. You have $350. @givingtnt made a great point about the SSD. Get a cheaper one for less than $100 (but avoid those without DRAM, as Linus recently mentioned in an AFAP video) and save the rest for a better upgrade down the road since it seems like you would prefer not to buy used gear.
