[Updated w/ Statement NH] NiceHash breached, resulting in a loss of $60 Million Dollars

I've potentially lost around $30 in unpaid credit. Not going to cry over it since I'm not seriously into this other than as a side interest. OTOH the 0.015BTC I got paid out during my summer is now worth a lot, enough I'm about to make my 1st ever purchase by bitcoin. Think I might convert the remaining BTC to ETH and store offline... not sure about exchanges either!

You clearly have no idea what nicehash is.

 

Nicehash is for mining, you built up BTC until you hit the minimum withdrawal and then you withdraw. AFAIK it's 0.01 bitcoin, and you have to pay a hefty fee on such a small withdrawal.

nice hash also has a internal wallet, and some people will us it as their main wallet leaving a lot of money on it, this is my point, don't leave a lot of money in the hands of strangers. I get that some money is lost but it will not be a lot if they paid out on a regular basis. you are the one that seems to not know all of their services and the way their system works.

I had about $70 in NiceHash because it has about a $100 minimal withdrawal limit. Had the GTX 1080 ti about half paid off.

NH does mine coins, you could even point your own mining software to they pool.

I only lost what I had mined over the weekend since I just had a payment.

 

I since switched to an alternative but it seems I wasn't the only one to use it and it's been a bit buggy :(

Right, then I'll need to be explained how nicehash had pools that you could point your mining rig to without using the nicehash software ... (exemple ; daggerhashimoto.usa.nicehash.com:3353) ????

Let's put it this way, nicehas was a marketplace, matching buyers with miners. They still need miners! They had a nice software solution. Shame about their security...

You should have taught us to mine directly in pools instead of teaching us to sell hash power with Nicehash.

I was about to withdraw $400 in bitcoin from my nicehash wallet this weekend.

And now I'm stuck with the power bill and loss of time because either nicehash is lying and pulling a highly unethical exit strategy or some hacker(s) made off with 62.6 MILLION in bitcoin.

I'm... I'm really pissed... not at Linus, but at myself for not pulling my bitcoin out in time.. and I hope whoever did this.. gets the karma that's coming to them and then some.

Your title sounds like you are mad at linus. It's really only your fault if you didn't want to teach yourself how to easily setup mining

Your being one sided if you think thousands of people didn't immediately try nicehash after seeing Linus' video about it.

A big disclaimer and a heads up about immediately withdrawing the nicehash wallet would have been a huge help.

I didn't know that if Nicehash got hacked that all nicehash wallets would be compromised, each account is it's own address and needs a key to withdraw. And each transaction takes time to process. The logistics of something like this happening is insane.

I read about Exchanges being hacked, so I knew never to leave my coin in an exchange but rather an actual wallet, but considering the nicehash wallet is a wallet, I figured it'd be safe to accumulate until it made sense to withdraw due to the fees to withdraw. I DID research, not one place online I found said anything about the risk with using nicehash as a SELLER. As a buyer, I've read they're scams mostly.. except for nicehash which blog posts supported as one of the least scammy ones. So don't give me shit people about not reading or researching. And yes, Being an INFLUENCER, Linus could have given us SAFETY TIPS in addition to the suggestion to using Nice Hash. There is some community responsibility there to inform, be a good samaritan. And I'm not the only LTT subscriber who's had money stolen with this. I wonder how many of them use this forum.
