Best Way to Transport PC?

This_guy1998

I am at college right now and I am fixing to transport my ATX Mid-Tower PC back home for my month long Christmas break. Right now I am using my case box but the styrofoam is slowly breaking each time I use it and I am afraid the next time I transport it the styrofoam will be unusable. The case dimensions are 480mm x 200mm x 460mm and the Case is a Enermax Ostrog. I have been looking at plastic cases like Pelican but all I am finding are cases that cost a few hundred and I am not willing to spend that much maybe $150 at most. What suggestions do you guys have?

Strap the case into the car with a seatbelt, and pack as much as you can around it so it doesn't move around too much if at all.

Use the original box but instead of reusing the old styrofoam, opt for an old pillow or two along with an old sheet.  That way you can get the pillows or sheets to fit the form of the case without any extra pressure on the case that won't dent anything along the trip.  And when you put the box in your vehicle for travel, make sure that you put it with the heavy side down.

Oh, also transport the GPU separately, if you still have the packaging from it that will work. You really don't want your GPU shearing off the PCIe slot among other things(it's a truly horrifying sight)

Yea, forgot to mention removing the GPU.  When you arrive at your destination, don't forget to check all the cables to make sure that everything is securely connected.

I have seen somewhere that if it is transported on the side the GPU remove isn't needed. Plus my mobo has a metal reinforced PCI-e slot.

If it's transported on the side, it's fine. I was just issuing a general warning in case you do transport it vertically.

I would never do that. In the past I have put the box in my front floorboard of my SUV with the heavy side facing the floor.
