Smallest possible monitor?

TheExile

Hey guys.

What's the smallest possible monitor you can connect to a PC? Including (especially) something I can cobble together from some other electronics?

Explanation

I have a test bench that is really convenient for testing used hardware I come across.  If I just need it to post, boot, and run a little diagnostic I could do it with a 6" to 10" screen mounted to the top or side of my rig and not need to have a second monitor taking up space on my workbench.  Is there something common I can recover a screen from that I can easily connect to a GPU and power off 12v or 5v?  Has anyone tried this before?

Thanks guys.

Simplest solution is to find a old square LCD monitor.

Physical size doesn't matter. It's the resolution modes it supports. You could have a 100" VGA screen or a 2" 720p screen.

On that note, you should figure out what interfaces you're going to use first. That will determine what kind of monitor you should be looking for.

This is gonna sound sad,  but I use raspberry pi monitors for my test screen.  Its powered by HDMI + USB,  and is 3 inches.  Seriously.  I just need to make sure processors i test post. so I don't need detail.  Runs ~ 5v.

As long as your gpu supports the resolution it outputs, youre fine. ( this thing supports 1080p scaled from crap native)

cost wise is about 20-30 bucks off amazon  771 CPU for scale.

That's the tricky part if  you're going to use equipment that you just pull from existing stuff.  Your GPU needs to output the exact resolution the screen is looking for in order for it to display properly, so sometimes sourcing a screen from a GPS for example might become a bit problematic.  You can use a mini DVD players screen, that I've seen people wire to video out,  but that such an old connector on video cards nowawadays.  Otherwise you'd need an input display board that is specific to each screen-  should cost you the same amount as a mini monitor.

I didnt spend too much time looking into the links im providing, so make sure you look through these
