It looks like they must have unfollowed you, which doesn't revoke the notification.

If you did that, I would still be able to see that you followed me (regardless of my moderator status, though moderators can also see all anonymous follows).

Yes. If you followed the OP anonymously, they would be able to see that you followed them.

I believe that only applies to the follow being public. The person you follow with that mode will still be able to see

That's what I was wondering about. It seems that users can see everyone that follows them and the "public" option only hides from outsiders.
