What Makes PUBG so Good?

Genuinely curious...

 

I have played H1Z1's battle royale game mode, and it was okay. The start was always good, but the mid game was always so boring. What makes PUBG so popular versus the other battle royale games? Versus other shooters like Counter Strike, Battlefield or Rainbow Six: Siege. I love those three but never could get into the battle royale games. Just curious what you guys like about them?

I love Pubg because I can pan my SO if he is being difficult which is something I cannot do inrl. Its also fun in duo/squad to find out which one of your friends is the least trustworthy but overall it is thrilling to get chicken dinners.

That's actually a great and very accurate video. I've been playing PUBG for about a month now and I'm so terribly addicted. I quit Overwatch for it. I debated on the purchase for several months after seeing the NUMEROUS negative reviews on Steam, but I went ahead with it. I already feel I've gotten my money's worth out of it. I also never thought I'd EVER watch people play games on Twitch, but I'll be damned if I'm not watching Shroud, Fugglet, and DrDisRespect as much as possible. Hell, I've even watched several hours of Wadu. Wadu Hek!

im sure its fun to play with a group of friends, but when i played it, i played solo and honestly i didnt enjoy it at all.

I just like it because it reminds me of playing hind and seek as a kid and I get that same gut feeling when just hiding and listening. It's also fun because most people suck or there is that always chase for #1 and the playability is pretty high. They need to optimize it though

For my part, I think it is great when either my SO or myself spots a car, and she tells me she's the professional driver, so she should drive - only to propel us off a cliff or flip the motorcycle in a field.

Nothing makes it good. The shooting is bad, it looks super bland and monotonous, it performs like shit, most of the time there is no action at all (yay, looting the same houses for the same things over and over again, what a fun way to spend ur time). I genuinely do not understand what makes this game so popular... Oh, and do not forget, the damn thing costs 30 €! A steal! Or not... Smh

In what way is the shooting bad? Sometimes there are some server issues but 100 people in one area is understandable. The graphics are nothing special but there not bad and it's about the gameplay. Performance could be better but it is much better than when the game was first playable. I was playing the test server on the new map and I thought it was running real nice.

There is only no action most of the time if you play like a pussy.

The game is tense allot of the time, doing well is deeply satisfying because the stakes of dieing are so high.

Many people enjoy looting houses. Again depending on how you wana play, you can drop in a populated area and not have to spend the start of the game just looting but some people enjoy that.

Even if you win, the games tend to last 40mins and you can get plently of action in that time and the action is more exciting than say CoD because it's not constant all the time, because it's unpredictable and again because the stakes are so high.

If you don't enjoy the game thats fine but to imply it's a boring game is silly

For me, the shooting just doesnt "flow" the same way as it does in csgo or gta for example. I really can't explain it.

 

Secondly, the graphics (the style, not the texture quality or anything) makes me not want to see the game world again, because I am sick of it. So I feel like not playing it anymore.

 

Thirdly, the performance is acceptable to me, but I have a 1070, most people on Steam have something worse, how can the game be so popular?

Looting is really boring, and if you are going to win, you're going to have to do it at some point. 5. i agree that less action can be better than constant action, although i think that there should be more than there is in pubg. csgo is a good middleground, for there is not action all the time, but a lot of the time. 

 

6. It's boring for me. It is my opinion. And i think it is silly that so many people play it.

Probably because they're going for a more realistic mechanic than CSGO. Have you ever fired a gun in real life? Because shooting a gun in PUBG is far more reminiscent to shooting a gun IRL than CSGO is.

 

There are some tweaks to the gun play in the upcoming patch though. Some of the weapons handle much nicer.

As long as you have a decent CPU, the performance is generally alright. I regularly play PUBG with my buds when we do a monthly LAN party. The host runs PUBG on a 2500k GTX 980 system, we have a guy that plays on a laptop with a i5 7300HQ + GTX 1050Ti, and my laptop runs an i7 6700HQ + GTX 1060. All 3 systems handle PUBG flawlessly, and we rarely drop below 50 FPS.

Im a bit late to this and all the replies are TL;DR for me, but personally I think there are two reasons why it's so popular despite being very lacking in quality.

 

1. This is one of those trending games that exploded with hype just for the sake of being trendy. Undertale did this too

 

2. It's literally the ONLY realistic Battle Royale game worth playing right now. THE ONLY ONE

I akin it back to the Old Quake and Unreal tournament deathmatch days. In those days people just wanted to kill each other online, it was simple.

 

PUBG in a way is like those games. You have weapon pick ups and then you kill your opponents until last man standing. Essentially it is like a bigger unreal tournament on a bigger map. People just want to shoot and troll their opponent and have a good laugh. Thats what online game should be. Even the players that take this game seriously, it is still funny.

6. It's boring for me. It is my opinion. And i think it is silly that so many people play it.

I have over 2k hours playing CSGO and over 1k on CS 1.6  and I felt the same way when I first played pubg,  you really have to learn how to use the guns there is no way it can be like CSGO there are wayyyy to many variables, it takes a lot of time to get really good at hitting shots.

 

I don't know what settings your using but with a 1070 you should be easily able to get over 100FPS with medium / low settings.  I have a RX 580 8GB and I get over 90FPS constant with custom settings.  If your looking for a "pretty" game that is nice to look at and explore this isn't the title for you its more about the game play and getting in fire fights then enjoying the landscape.  I could play this game on a flat map with nothing but 2 houses and still have fun just like you would playing a basic ass aim map on csgo.

 

If you have not tried the TEST SERVER with the new desert map, weapons and vehicle upgrades your seriously missing out on an excellent update and I would give it a good try again.  Be sure to play on lower settings its an FPS game don't worry about how it looks having 20-30 fps over your opponent will help you.  I play CSGO at the lowest settings even tho I could run it maxed out.

 

I will agree pubg can be terrible at times with no fighting or the times you spend 15 - 20 min looting just to get killed running out of the town you just looted but for the times you get 15 kills and win the game it more than makes up for it.

 

Either way your entitled to your own decision!
