Primochill Vue reacted badly and built up

@Voxels-Box

Just to re-iterate what @Jsunn says, but Blitz Part 1 is exclusively for radiators, so don't even think about running it through the pump. Part 2 may be run as a loop through a pump, but make sure to rinse the part 1 out of the radiators incredibly well.

I'm willing to bet that the discoloration you see on the nickel will come clean with Flitz metal polish.

I highly recommend Blitz part 2 to clean out your loop.  It is safe to use on nickel parts and should help remove some of the stubborn stuff from the rads.

Thank you, I just remembered that I have a tube of flitz from years ago. Ill give it a go on the blocks tonight.

I'm going to place an order with PPCs today, so Ill get the Blitz kit (Happy to see its only $20)

Thank you @For Science! as well!

Ive currently got a temporary loop running distilled water and a tiny bit of vinegar going through a filter (since I had it on hand)

Let this thread be a warning to anyone wanting to use the Primochill Vue crap. It is never worth it, a product that does this to a system is NEVER worth the investment.

Hopefully this line will die off quickly so that they work on a replacement. I mean it would piss me off to have $30-40 worth of coolant destroy 600+ bucks of loop in just a few weeks.

Yes! Turns out the Flitz was just the thing for the job. I was able to almost completely restore the monoblock. Just the microfin plate has some degradation remaining, no matter how much I polished. But I’m happy with the result.

Getting the O-Rings back in place was quite the task. I ended up running to Ace Hardware to pick up some silicon grease and had to use a tray of ice and distilled water to get the ring to shrink back to its proper size. Worked out though!

Ill tackle the GPU block today, which should be easier.

Thank you again!

I see, I’ll look into getting some Blitz.

I just got my rads out, and it looks like I can see some buildup.

Some visible from the ports:76FA4F4A-5D63-4A71-AA75-678EF78F231B.thumb.png.959552451db574beac357a82a92b22c1.png

I see. Understood.

I picked one up from ModMyMods. Should arrive Friday. The D5 with usb and Aquabus is EOL? Is there a reason for that?

Here are some pics of the cleaning of the monoblock. It looked awful upon first inspection, but some areas cleaned up well. Other areas, not so much. The main jet plate has some marring that I can’t get off with soap and scrubbing.

Also shown is the main nickel plate, which has the water flow permanently etched in. It’s not something that’s scrubbing off.

This is a section of soft tube made by Primochill that was between rads. It’s completely opaque from the vue. I squeezed the end together so the interior sides touched, and it stuck together and pulled apart. Had a consistency like toothpaste. Yikes. It’s pretty scary that Vue can do this to Primochills own product that is supposed to be compatible.

New product announcement is incoming, I have no timetable on it. I also have no idea if there going to release a new pump or not. The last firmware for AQ6 release notes state: framework for upcoming Aqua-Computer products.

It could just time to phase that pump out or it could be that it was being too much work to create the aquabus version. I truly don't know how they even soldered the wires due to space they had to work with. Aqua-Computer is not a massive company like EK.

Vue alike liquids should be avoided if you use any kind of nickle plated block. Vue use some really fine particle that is usually a form of a stone or something alike (for example Iriodin, Miraval and Pyrisma products from Merck) that will act as a erode agent over time. Think of it like the sand and the ocean erodes rocks all over the coast.

Unless you use glass, acrylic, petg and normal tubing will eventually get eroded too.

So its a really nice concept and it has awesome visual effects but is not practical for a long term usage.

Great to hear on your monoblock! Looks brand new!

Thanks! The restoration of the GPU block went well (and was much easier since it had fewer parts and O-rings. Oh, those O-rings are a pain!) The nickel in the affected areas aren’t perfect, but short of replacing them, it shouldn’t be noticeable.

I’ve got a leak test going on with my temporary loop, and things are looking good.

Those blocks looks fantastic! I am so happy for you. So it would seem that Vue doesn't actually sand down the block, but produce a very sticky coat that looks like erosion on first sight, interesting.....

Did primochill ever state what their product's MSDS was, that copper like deposit looked almost like PT nuke being mixed in with nickel.

I think they did or atlease PPCS rep did state what it was. I know Mayhem also talked about it briefly.

I asked for one of the MSDSs, and in true coolant industry bad practice, I can confirm that Vue is 14 % unicorn dust. So we are none the wiser.

Lovely so we are back to knowing nothing at all about their chemical composition, for the unicorn dust we can probably deduce it to being a pearlescent mica material that's been ground to an extreme fineness as that's what I recall Aurora from Mayhems has been using over the years.

Updates:

I leak tested the blocks for about 4 days, no issues there. I drained them last night and they are currently drying. Ill be reinstalling them on Saturday.

I used Mayhems Blitz Part 1 on the radiators last night. I let it sit for about 9 hours, and flushed each rad 5 times. The Ph test after flushing showed about a 7. It still looks like theres some sort of buildup in there, but I think theyre about as good as itll get for now. At least theyre Ph neutral.

I dont think Ill use Part 2 right now.  Ill save that for later unless its absolutely needed.

Ill be starting a build log this weekend for the rebuild, where Ill document the case modding, acrylic stuff, aquaero installation, and the rest of the watercooling.

I'd like to add that I'm trying the very same Stirling silver color in my loop now, and it also turned the very same blueish color after about 3 days.

I'm keeping a close eye on the graphics card blocks in case the gunk appears but this is certainly an interesting experiment to say the least.

This stuff lasted five days in my loop before it completely gunked up my system. On TOP of that, i had installed a brand new mono block, which had to be taken apart for cleaning. And upon reassembly, one of the o-rings wasn't sealed. Went to fix it, the screw was stripped. So yeah, i'm staying the hell away from this stuff

well, this happened after a week. Drained it and flushed with 4 gallons of DW. There's still some white waxy buildup in the tubing and blocks but it's flowing well enough that I'll just leave it alone with some clear fluid for now.

Notice the very stark color change from the leftover 'sterling silver' Vue still in the bottle.
