You're right, it shouldn't, but it did and as long as people check for updates there is no real issue except that Apple should have edited the package of 10.13.1 update before they pushed 2017-001.

How common it is to people to complete their updates and then immediately check again?  Most people are not accustomed to an update unpatching a thing that they had previously fixed, so I can see that going unnoticed, and if it did, that's not the result of having a "choice", that's just bad handling of the whole situation.

And btw, at least Apple has the infrastructure to push updates and patches immediately to all their users and aren't limited to carrier approvals or roll out schedules.

Well very, since in macOS apps open where you left off unless you have that manually disabled.

Apple is among the last of the tech giants which I would expect such a fundamental error in software release and development.

 

I’ve used OS X for a long while and iOS ever since iPhone OS 2.0 and back in those days, the stuff just plain worked. No agregious amounts of major bugs (apart from the Snow Leopard guest account data loss bug) that required quick subsequent releases and you didn’t have to update out of fear that your device loses stability and reliability. “It just works” really held true back then.

I mean, this has to be embarrassing for them.  I'm sure anyone would agree they've built a brand on the appearance of quality, reliability, simplicity, etc. and the long list of recent issues really undermines that.  I wouldn't be surprised if there's some mid-high ranking people in trouble right now over in HQ

Jony Ive and Craig Federighi’s jobs are on the line. Just look at what happened when Scott Forstall messed up the Maps in iOS 6 for using TomTom map data instead of Google, he got fired.

TBH, I'm not hating Apple. I'm just holding them to a higher standard because back then, iOS and OS X were a pleasure to use despite their limitations.
