Dedicated Video Memory

Mark Yapp

Hi My Name is Mark

This is my First ever post. So do forgive me if i sound like a Noob.

So basically i have a Laptop that has 2 graphic on it.

The Intel HD Graphic 5500 and the GeForce 940M (With 4GB Dedicated RAM)

After Checking the setting it has 0 (Zero) Mb for Dedicated Memory.

How do i fix that?

I have gone through forum and Youtube to check how to solve this but nothing works.

(Not even adding a New "Key" in the Registration file, the "DedicatedSegmentSIze" Which everyone in Youtube and Forum are talking about)

REFER to The Youtube link below

I have a desktop and it has an allocated Dedicated Video Memory of 8GB.

So i am wondering what has happen to the LAPTOP?

My Laptop spec are:-

Intel i7-5500 2.4GHZ

Nvidia GeForce 940M With 4gb Dedicated VRAM

16GB DDR3L Memory

P/s Love your Work and The dedication you guys have. I am a FAN Seriously.

I have to ask, why would you want to dedicate RAM to your iGPU when you already have dGPU? It makes no sense.

Can you explain what you mean by that?

You have the Intel Graphics, ie. iGPU, and the NVIDIA GPU, ie. dGPU. Why would you want to dedicate RAM to the iGPU? Games use the NVIDIA-one, dedicating RAM to the GPU that isn't even used for games makes zero sense.

The Intel HD5500 doesn't have dedicated memory. You can't give it dedicated memory either. It borrows as much system memory as it needs, this is the shared memory value you see. That's what it'll use from your RAM at the very most.

Is there a way to look for this Dedicated Video Memory From the DGPU?

Thanks @WereCatf @NelizMastr @firelighter487 i understand it now.

But can i ask as to why the person in the Video can do it?? He changed it to 512MB??

"Dedicated video memory", when it comes to your dGPU, is the same as the VRAM, ie. 4GB. It's the same thing, just a different way of saying it. And who cares why the person in the video did it? Probably just yet-another dummy who doesn't quite understand what they're doing; ignore him, you don't have to tweak any "dedicated video memory" settings on your laptop.

all he did was reserve memoy for it.

the way it normally works is the gpu can use a certain amount of memory, lets say 4GB. but it will almost never do that, only when neccesary. if you reserve memory for it, that means the system won't put stuff there. that's useful if you often have loads of stuff open and also need the memory for graphics.

but since you have a dedicated card that won't matter much, because that has it own 4GB of memory. and all heavy graphics applications will use that, and usually wont touch system memory.

the point is, Vram is phisical on your machine, it cannot be changed with software.
