''Apple, Google, Microsoft, and others launch campaign for NSA reform''

Eight of the biggest companies in technology have united to speak out against the NSA's leaked surveillance programs and demand sweeping reforms. AOL, Apple, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Twitter, and Yahoo have all signed a letter to President Obama and Congress that The Hill reports will run in national print ads on Monday.

"We understand that governments have a duty to protect their citizens," begins the letter. "But this summer's revelations highlighted the urgent need to reform government surveillance practices worldwide." The letter also appears on a new website, Reform Government Surveillance, which further outlines the group's positions.

It's finally happening, the lawsuit against the government that needed to happen. While for the time being this probably won't the NSA's surveillance, when everything is done over with, and if these companies come out on top, the NSA will be gone, and hopefully most government surveillance will go with it.

If these companies don't win, something's up, because there is plenty of compelling evidence to take down the NSA. Only time will tell now, and it'll be very exciting to keep up with this news. Stay tuned.

When I read the topic, the first thought that popped into my head was "Oh, they want even more backdoor access?"

Edit: @TopWargamer you should edit out the "mobile" part of that link, you and your mobile news habits. :P

A friend of mine gave a funny comment to this news when I linked her.

""AOL, Apple, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Twitter, and Yahoo "
Who, Rich, Stalkers, Weirdstalkers, What, Idiots, Babblingidiots and Crappyemails

yeah that seems legit"

She made me realize that I don't trust either side.

Why can't apple just sue the NSA? They do with everyone else.

>take down the NSA

um no, will not happen. On the very slim chance they can be 'taken down' another will popup within a year that may be twice as bad as them. Or how about private companies working for the 'murican government?

There will always be some form of the NSA, even thinking they will be gone makes you look naive.

Anyhow, it's promising that large corporations are actually taking action against these idiots.

They have. Germany is looking at creating their own national network such that no traffic that doesn't have to leave Germany does, preventing the NSA from spying on it - Merkel was not happy when she found out the NSA had been tapping her phone...
