CPU Fan clearence

ckl_1981

Hi everyone and a merry Christmas. I would like to consult an issue, i replaced my pc chassis with a CM 590 III and planning to fit an AM4 aftermarket air cooler, the only available options are Coolermaster in my region. I would like to ask which is the best out of the box that will fit iside my case as the spec says its only support 159mm tall cooler. Thanks

What cpu and ram are you using? Where are you shopping/located? Budget?

IMO the stock cooler looks really good anyway. If you don't plan on OCing getting an aftermarket cooler for ryzen is fairly pointless. That aside, the Hyper 212x and the Hyper 212 evo are probably the only decent air coolers that cooler master make. Both will just fit in your case. The 212x will have 1mm between the top of the cooler and the side of the case, while the 212 evo will have half a millimetre. The 212x is the better of the two.

Hi, the aftermarket cooler its just for cool looks, i checked the clearance 212 is more than 159mm in height I am planning on a CM T4 that is cheaper and only 153mm in height, will be replacing the fan with a Master Air Balance fan. Thanks

Umm, no. The 212X is 158mm in height. The stock cooler is not just for cool looks, it is an extremely capable cooler that can even handle overclocking. It simply isn't worth buying a cooler as low quality as the CM T4 if you aren't even overclocking.

Unfortunately 212x is not available only the 212 Turbo LED that way pass the height clearance. I think I will go with the Hyper T4 a Master Air Balance fan replacement and Mastergel Pro. Going to upgrade my rig hopefully before Christmas as the Hyper X Fury is unavailable due to prices, Only the Asus Strix X370 Gaming F and the Ryzen 1500x. The rest will be parts from my old rig.

the thermal paste that comes with the T4 is practically identical to the mastergel pro. save your money. And for cooling the 1500X, you don't need a replacement fan, it's more than enough. IMO you're overthinking all of this a bit.

Any of the Wraith AM4 coolers will do the job more than admirably and look dead sexy in the process. IIRC, the Wraith Max (or the OG AM3+ Wraith) will outperform the 212 EVO, the Wraith Spire comes close, and the Wraith Stealth is more than enough for a decent overclock on the processors it ships with.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

So I just stick with the stock cooler? Or do some research. Well it's not that expensive to try the Hyper T4 Lols. I wanna a cool look from the side panel.

If anything, the stock cooler looks better than some ugly heatsink. It sits flush against the mobo, so you can see more of the build more clearly. It frankly isn't worth upgrading if you don't want to overclock.

Agreed too, but when the time comes when I really needed to replace the stock with fancy aftermarket I might risk pulling out the CPU out from the socket that is a long term issue on PGA type processors. I read the rewiews that stock cooler that comes with the Ryzen 1500x is a Wraith Spire ( No LED version ) matches the performance of a budget aftermarket big chunk of aluminum. ( Outperforms it sometimes ) Thanks.

Well if it outperforms it why buy one? That seems really irrational. And the 1500X is not the kind of cpu that needs a fancy aftermarket cooler anyway. And I don't know where you read about them being pulled out, but as long as you're careful when removing the cooler, that's extremely unlikely.

That actually happened on an older Athlon 64 based system of mine where the thermal compound had gone bad and pulled the CPU with it haha

Believe me, I pulled out the CPU together with the heatsink 3 times already but lucky no damage. My current build is a Phenom X4 955.
