RUMOR: Samsung getting in on the X phone market

Samsung just can't let Apple have all the fun with having an 'X' phone as there is a report (rumor) that the phone model SM-G888N0 will be titled as the Galaxy X and it is being talked that this will be a limited release device in the Korea market to be released around December or January.  This will supposedly be the rumored foldable Galaxy phone that was announced in September.

In September Samsung already announced its plan to unveil its first foldable smartphone in 2018. The media soon believed it would be at the beginning of 2018. As the Galaxy S9 will arrive in February 2018 we think the Galaxy X smartphone will be introduced even before that date.

Now that the support page appears online we may even see an official introduction in December or January.

The Samsung Galaxy X will get a flip-phone design with two displays of which one will be flexible. At present not all components can be made flexible. Therefore, the smartphone can bend ‘only’ one side by using a multi-joint hinge.

As far as the specifications, a lot remains uncertain. The foldable phone already received Bluetooth and WiFi certification, so these features will definitely be available. As the Snapdragon 845 processor has not yet been made officially, the Galaxy X will most likely be powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor.

In addition to the Galaxy X foldable smartphone we believe Samsung may also work on a Galaxy foldable tablet. Earlier this month we discovered a new patent showing sketches of a foldable tablet design.

I don't know if any of this has been posted before (tried searching and didn't see anything), however, given the short timeframe, I would definitely see this as a rumor for a device to be soon released.  Of course the naming would seem appropriate as Samsung and Apple are rivals and this would be a way for them to extend that rivalry.  If this is true, it would be interesting to see this as a product and to see if it eventually expands beyond just Korea.

ZTE already released a foldable/dual-screen phone, not a flexible one, but a dual screen foldable one called the axon m. It was just recently released too.

Apple doesn't own "X" they are not the first and certainly wont be the last to put an X at the end of the product name.

But honestly I don't really care as I'll never buy a phone for over 1k€.

Can anyone give an objective reason why foldable phones would have the upper edge? The downsides seem to outweight the benefits for me.
