Which Phone should I go for?

So my mom is offering me a new phone for how good my grades have been. She suggested getting me the iPhone X since she also got my brother that phone. However, The Oneplus 5T is also coming out soon & i have my eye on that phone too. Which would be a better choice? what would be the downsides & positives of switching both phones? I like to watch videos, movies, anime, play some occasional games, use social media, etc. I also take alot of photos & would love a great camera. I have an S7 Edge but its been pretty buggy & unusable. I have over 1 thousand songs & i know i need a headphone jack but the jack adapter on the X doesn't bother me. Plus the 5T is like HALF the cost of the X.

I like both ios & android also

What do you guys suggest? Stay on android or switch to iOS?

The most important question regarding going with iOS or Android (imho) is do you want it to play well with your PC environment? if yes, then go with the iPhone if youre a mac user but go with the Android if youre a PC user. if you dont care about it playing well with your PC, either system will do all of those things you listed very well. The oneplus is a good looking phone, but i dont know alot about them. The iphone has a very solid history and Apple deserves credit for their support should you have any issues.

Im personally going to go back to Android for my next phone. my first iphone was a 7 and itll be my last. as a lifetime android user, i find android to just be more exciting. Either way, you probably wont be disappointed.

I'd stay on android and pick the 5T andunless you have a really good reason to spend twice as much on an iphone x, and if you're already familiar with android it will be a very nice phone :)

are there good reasons i should stay on android? Seeing everyone with iphones, having the best version of snapchat, facetime, imessage, etc. at my school makes me feel left out i'll admit but are there good alternatives to those i mentioned?

I am building a Gaming PC so obviously I can go with either here.

As a pure phone iPhone X >> OnePlus anything

iPhone's are also just hands down better at media consumption. Most social apps (and apps in general) run better on the iPhone.

Though I think you might like the iPhone 8 Plus more than the iPhone X

Why would you need to connect your phone to the computer? The only reason I can think of/That I use is to attach a remote debug session in chrome for webdev

That doesnt make sense. Windows is just as inept at talking to an Android phone as it is an iPhone.

macOS is the only operating system that actually interfaces well with its mobile counterparts.

It's all down to OS preference, I'd personally hate to switch back to iPhone because I like the customizability but some people enjoy iOS more.

Sure you can have an OS preference but that doesn't change that iOS runs applications better.

performance wise the iPhone X is the way to go over the OnePlus 5T, however, the one plus 5T would be a better choice unless you actually have a reason to spend a grand on a phone that does the exact same things as a £400 one.

Unless you have a strong preference towards Android the X is really a good phone. Even though I'm an Android guy myself if I find a good deal on the X (<$750) I might pull the trigger on it.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

What can one do that the other can not? Sure it has some little features here and there but in real world usage they will both do what they're made for and satisfy the user.

Yeah, in everyday usage at school those are pretty useless. Water resistance is just a reason to bump up the price I can put my iPhone 4 in water and it will survive.
