$1200-$2000 Gaming PC Build + Peripherals

PJNess

I've been looking into getting myself a custom gaming pc build with a budget of $1200 to $2000 CAD including a monitor and peripherals, but the lower the cost the better. I have a fairly general idea of what to look for, but it would be great to get some help and suggestions. I am also waiting for Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Boxing Day deals so that I can get a lower price. On this pc I'm looking to play some CSGO, PUBG and possibly other games, as well as watching YouTube during my down time, and maybe some school work too.

Here is what I have so far:

Case: NZXT S340 $94.98 or Corsair Carbide Clear 600C $179.99

Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z370-G $231.99
CPU: i5 8600k $349.99
CPU Cooler: Be Quiet! Pure Rock $35.99

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G3 $89.99
HDD: Seagate BarraCuda 1TB $58.49
SSD: Samsung EVO 960 250GB $172.99
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX $259.99 or G.Skill TridentZ $229.99 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz/3000MHz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 $539.99

OS: Windows 10 Home $165

Total Cost = $1968-$2083 (without monitor and peripherals)

For a pc case I like something that looks simple but sleek, with a window or tempered glass. I'm leaning a bit to the NZXT S340 for the price difference.

I could downgrade the motherboard a bit but I may need a wifi card which would be an extra expense. The motherboard becomes a problem with the 8th generation of intel processors, so many motherboards aren't compatible with it.

I've heard that the i5 8600k is about as good as an i7 7700k for a lower price, with more cores rather than more threading. I was also thinking of the i5 8400, which is even cheaper, but isn't capable of overclocking which I may or may not decide to do.

The Be Quiet! Pure Rock cooler has good reviews, effective and silent for a low price.

I'm not exactly sure how much power I'll need but a 650W seems like it's more than enough for what I'm getting, and I could get one with lower power and bronze rating for a bit less money.

The HDD and SSD combo would be effective for me to store things on the 1TB HDD and have my most used things on the 250GB SSD, both of which should have enough storage to last.

RAM is pretty expensive and I'm not sure whether speed makes a big difference for experience because it does not have a big difference in price. Would you suggest a 8GB (2x4GB) or a 16GB (2x8GB) RAM?

Graphics cards are really expensive and I'm not sure how much of a difference it will really make if I get a more expensive 1080 or 1080 ti which is not within my budget. It might even be a good idea to downgrade to a 1060 or 980 instead.

For a monitor, I would like to have something better than a 1920x1080p, 60Hz pixel refresh rate and a 24-inch display, if it will fit in the budget. I've looked at many discussions with people saying that 1080p is not very good, especially for larger displays, as well as a 60Hz pixel refresh rate. Also, cheaper monitors have reviews saying there is colour bleeding and dead pixels, or a Adaptive/G-Sync causing short blackouts.

I still don't understand why Windows 10 Home costs so much, even less why it costs anything at all. Is it worth getting an older version of Windows?

This would add up to a hefty $2000 without a monitor and peripherals so I may need to downgrade a few things. I also have a bit of room and I could push the budget if I could spare another $500. I may get an extra boost from family and friends leading up to the holidays and I hope there will be some better deals soon.

In the end, if any of you could suggest any replacements for what I have so far, or what may or may not be a good idea (possible bottlenecking) that would be a great help. Thanks.

That would be after taxes but I could also get a lot of things from the US because my brother works in New York and he can bring things over during the holidays.

Thanks for that. However the main problem is that the build is in USD which means it would cost about $2800, which is a shame because that build looks pretty nice.

Considering the 8600k will cost you over $100 more I would stick with an 8400, especially seeing as it will be fine with a 1080

For monitor I recommend a Dell S2417DG if you can afford it. 1440p 165 hz g sync for $400 USD or so.

I'm not very good with peripherals so I can't give you great recommendations there. What I can say though is that I own a G502 Spectrum and it's a great mouse; I highly recommend it if you're looking for a $50-$60 mouse.

The Dell S2417DG has a couple reviews saying stuff about colour banding. Otherwise it's really good.

From what I've heard it's ok but if that's a concern you could look towards something else like this.
