Laptop repair-- use original OS or latest?

Windows 10. It should auto activate once connected to the internet.

Hi, I'm replacing the hard drive in my laptop. My computer originally came with Windows 8, but I updated to Windows 10 during the free upgrade year. Do I reinstall Windows 8 and let my motherboard automatically verify my license, or can I download the Windows 10 disc creation tool? I want Windows 10 (I don't like 8), but I don't want to waste my time making an installation tool if my laptop will ask me for a key I don't have. What version of Windows do I need to try to install, and can I get Windows 10 back or am I stuck with 8?

I'm sorry if my question is unclear. I'm not sure how to word it... anyway, thank you for your time!

One other thing, I actually have the official Windows 10 USB drive from Microsoft, but I already used it on another computer. Can I use that drive to install the OS or is there some weird key embedded in the drive that would try to revoke my other computer's access? The drive should only be the files, right?

Should be no issue.

i5 6600k and GTX 1070 but I play 1600-900. 1440p BABY!

Still, don't put too much faith in my buying decisions. xD
