NVIDIA skipping Volta for gamers? Ampere might be next!

So NVIDIA are seemingly skipping the anticipated Volta for gamers, which to me makes sense. Volta is just pascal but with the new Tensor cores, which might be hard to translate into game performance as i have speculated previously. this is WCCF Tech that picked this up from german site heise.de and even they are saying add salt, so add libberal amounts of LoL players salt, personaly id say its BS but il report on it anyway :D

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

i dont especially mind but i can see your point, the entire name Radeon reminds me of radon though which i quickly associate with houses that need sanitation and/or cancer :P

Strange thing to be bothered by considering the vast amount of things named after dead people(every other street, building, monument, etc).

 

Is it because they're GPU's or does the event just bother you in general?

Vega and Polaris are stars(or star systems if you prefer).  Not nearly as inanimate as AMDs refreash rate counter.  Nvidia should just get smart and name the architectures after noteworthy physicists instead of dead people.

I'm bothered by thosetoo .I also don't see the continuity in dead people in Nvidias lineup

Fermi was a nuclear scientist and Pascal was a mathematician. Couldn't they have named them all based on electricity related scientists

well Tensor cores have been, from what i know, been no gain in performance unless the programs are specifically built to utelize them, so most games, which are right now NOT built for them, would just end up performing exactly like Pascal. thats at least the case on the Tesla side of NVIDIA cards.

Pascal wasn't included in earlier road maps as well so this isn't unordinary for NVidia. The fact we haven't seen any consumer Volt gives this much more credibility then just baseless rumors.

Pascal is mostly just overclocked and tuned Maxwell, there isnt really a huger gain in performance per clock per core from my understanding, a bit like Kabylake was to Skylake
