Is g sync worth my money?

Free sync is good, but it's response times are worse. Which is why it costs less.

I agree and the performance with Nvidia cards while not optimized runs perfectly fine in most cases.  I'd rather get a higher Hz monitor and or higher resolution then try to cram GSync on my bucket list.  Again yes there are some benefits but for $300 more, nah

It's response time are 4ms just the G-sync IPS displays, because they're the same panels, or likely the same panels.

Even with the Free-sync equivalent starting at $399? Up to you in the end anyways.

You wouldn't use Free-sync, you'd just be saving like $200.

If you can get to someone's house and see how G-sync or Free-sync works for them that would probably help your decision.

I have a free-sync display and I can tell you that I almost never have a need to use it. As I don't really notice screen tearing and would rather have 0 latency from any sync technology. The latency they add is probably unnoticeable though.

So I would not suggest paying $200 more for the same panel type, just to have adaptive sync. Thus is the problem with nvidia not supporting free/open software yet again. Instead forcing their users to pay extra for the same kind of technology.

Here's some videos that might help, Adored has an example where Hitman had a lot of screen tearing that free-sync helped with. It's also a game by game basis to an extent.

Pixio has one for $399

The Nixeus display will 100% not have dead pixels or have a warranty in case anything goes wrong, it also has a better stand than the Pixio display for $70 more.

Pixio and Nixeus are pretty well known, Pixio is like the best for Korean Monitors right now, Level1techs has reviews for a few of their monitors

Nixeus is just relatively new but they make some pretty nice products like that free-sync display
http://www.nixeus.com/about-us/

There's reviews for that monitor, both pretty positive.

Have you ever heard of Superflower? They make some of the better PSUs, but are really only in europe/asia ect, or are just OEMs for other companies.

What about Colorful the GPU maker? Huge in China almost no presence here.

Will u feel the g sync if you have a powerful gou as the 1080 TI?

I've been running a Dell S2716DG for the past few months, and G-Sync is probably its best feature.

Even when dropping below 60fps, the game remains shockingly smooth. It's still noticeable, but much less jarring than framedrops on a normal panel.

With that said, I'd personally prioritize high refresh rate over g-sync, as it makes a much larger difference in your entire experience, as Windows just feels so much more responsive at 100+ hz.

Yeah you should. I think that monitor goes up to 165hz, and you will probably see framerates between 90-120 fps, so g sync would definitely be put to use.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have had the pg279q for around a year now and I simply cannot go back to not using Gsync.  Even 165hz without Gsync is annoying to me as even though there is little tearing there is stuttering when the computer/video card cannot deliver high enough frame rates.  Hard to describe so you just have to experience Gsync.  Your brain learns to ignore the tearing and compensate for the stuttering in a non Gsync screen so when you use Gsync for awhile and then go back to a non Gsync screen the tearing and stuttering is so incredibly obvious that you cannot believe you ever tolerated non Gsync display at all in the past.

Also, I do not have a very powerful machine either.  I have a Pentium dual core g3420, or something like that, I can't remember and a gtx 960.  Lately I mostly play fallout 4 and while the frame rate could be better the experience still is way better than I've ever experienced in a game.  The amazing part to me is that lowering the resolution does not help the feel of the game at all because Gsync does such a good job of matching the output framerate to the display.  Running at 1440p on my display I have most of the details on low and AA off and the frame rate stays above 40 fps and the experience is nothing short of amazing.   Even when I crank up the details and the frame rate drops into the 30's the gameplay is still better than any non Gsync display.

When I play games like Unreal Tournament though I find Gsync annoying and prefer a static 165hz with all details turned as low as possible.

I highly recommend the pg279q.  While very expensive I sincerely feel the value far exceeds any purchase I have ever made in computer hardware over the last 30 years.
