No, no it's not.

Not even close to compatible.

The x299 series uses socket 2066 and the 8700K is socket 1151.

8700K is only compatible with Intel 300 series chipset boards.

X299 doesn't support the 8700K.
Just as a heads up, @LinusTech will probably not respond personally.

TL;DR

No it IS NOT compatible

Where can I find a list of comparability between different mother boards and processors?

PS: if you can't tell, this is my first ever build and I just started learning about all this a two weeks ago. Lol.

Hey there,

i am working on my first build as well and have been soaking uo about as much as physically possible via YouTube and online articles. As many “how to get started” videos will say, I’d start on PC Partpicker and use their compatibility filter as a safety net. Then start watching how-to build videos, as well as intro to CPUs, GPUs, Cooling...etc. Basically familiarize yourself with each and every component, how they interact with one another, and what compatibility or dependencies exist. There is a ton of content out there that is super helpful and can make navigating the very steep learning curve productive and fun. I’m about a month into the process and have learned an insane amount, but then again have only scratched the surface. So best of luck and remember, YouTube is your friend.

Some channels I have found particularly helpful can be found below:

HardwareCanucks

JayzTwoCents

General nerd and I work in corporate finance. Happy to help!
