1440p @ 60 FPS

What would be the best grafics card for 1440p gaming at 60 FPS, and I mean 60 FPS all the time without constant dips below that.

A 1080ti is overkill and expensive, would a 1080 be enough and if yes which one should I pick?! I mostly play AAA titles.

At 60 fps a 1070 might be enough, though a 1080 is reasonable if you want to max out everything.

What settings would you like to play games at and which games do you play?

In GTA V with everything maxed out and 4X MSAA I do get dips below 60FPS in certain areas with lots of grass, but my average FPS is roughly 80. I'm running a 1080Ti and using a 2560x1440 resolution.

Well a 1070 is better than a 270x, it’s like years newer lol.

like a 390 beats the 970 for the same price.

That’s like saying you went from a GTX 660 to a rx480 and your like wow Thisnis so much better so I’ll neveR use Nvidia, your compring apples to oranges.

Nvidia has had more drive issues than AMD by the way. Why do you think Nvidia has to release a new one every other week lol, to fix what they broke in the last update.

aa for the question get the 1080ti is you want to max everything for the next few years at 1440 60fps

If you want to argue with me, and you probably will please PM me, no need to ruin threads becase you dont like how I am.

back on topic: OP, your profile seems to indicate you already have a GTX 1060, if you have the option of flipping that for some dough i'd say 1070 or 1080, if you cant flip the 1060 i'd say just deal with lowering settings a bit, especially turning down AA does a lot at higher resolutions.

A 1080 would probably be your best bet, however, keep in mind that some games will still not be able to run at max settings in 1440p at 60+ fps (GR Wildlands and PUBG get 40-45fps at max settings in 1440p on a 1080). Having said that, those games are so poorly optimized that even a 1080Ti can't manage 60+. For most other games (e.g. BF1, Battlefront 2 beta, etc) a 1080 will get 80+ fps. For most games a 1070 will manage 60+ at max setting in the majority of cases. A 1080 will give you a bit more room to account for newer games and the occasional frame drop.

TL;DR: A 1070 will be fine in most cases, a 1080 is better, no GPU will do 60+ at 1440p max settings in every game.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Spoiler

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

Well for the price you get better performance with the lower AMD cards.

so yes you get a little extra heat but you also get to enjoy a better experice for the same price as a Nvidia card. Again on the lower end.

I run a 1440p 60hz panel, and I run a 1080 with it. I used to run a 780, and that was a great card for its time (still pretty competent at 1080p) but with current and future games, a 1080 is a perfect card for high+ settings a that resolution and refresh rate for a few years to come. A 1070 would likely give a good experience today, but you may have to turn down settings in a year or so. If you want to stay at the bleeding edge of graphics performance as newer, more demanding games are released, you need to go overkill now and ride that for a few years. I did that with my 780, and rode it for about 4 years.

my 1070 can do 1440p 60 fine. some games tho, such as some of the recent Ubisoft games, i cannot do ultra. i'll have to fiddle around with the settings, but sometimes i get drops here and there

What is your budget? Do you have a budget? I would say a 1080(Ti) if you have no budget but a 1070(Ti) would satisfy your needs perfectly. Some games are poorly optimized and will not run at such high FPS, what kind of system and monitor are you pairing it with? The reason I have Ti in brackets is because it is optional and will get you better performance + you can say you have a 1080Ti:P I would recommend overclocking it too!
