Is the 980 Ti still worth it?

jcoops

So I'm slowly upgrading my computer, from the CPU to motherboard to the ram, and then to the GPU.  My 6700k, Z170 TUF Mark 1, and 8GB of Kingston RAM that I scored on eBay for just under $400 is arriving today, and this got me thinking.  What about my graphics card?  I currently own a SC 960 from GIGABYTE that's still going strong after 2 years.

I'm planning on selling my old CPU, MOBO, and RAM for around $280.  I also found a couple 980 Ti's on eBay for around $250-$350.  My question is, are they still worth it?  And if so, what models should I be looking for?  I do care about looks and I love a good looking GPU, especially the hybrid ones.

Thanks guys!

EDIT:  I'm playing at 1080p, 144hz.

If you can get one for $250-$300 then yeah, go for it.

Pretty much, just get anything without a blower cooler, I can't think of any that were flat out bad.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

980ti is roughly equivalent to a more power hungry 1070, still very relevant in today's market.

Oh okay, wow.  Should I go for that?  I mean, I'm only playing 1080p 144hz.

No, 980 ti is about a 1070 (i think 980 was a typo) 1060 is more or less a 980

It's probably the "best" cars that's not overkill at that resolution and frame rate for "well optimized games"

So, you might still not get 144fps in PUBG or Watch Dogs 2, but games like Battle Field 1, Tomb Raider, etc should be at or close to that 144fps glory even at max or mostly max.

Yes sorry that was a typo, I meant 980ti

i mewhen i tried sli oh i don't know 2-3 years ago it was a pain in the arse trying to get the dam things to work. If new games came out you had to create a profile on the spot with nvidia inspector or something man it was a lot of work. A single powerful card is the only way to go imo. if you want to do synthetic benchmarks sli all day bb but actually playing new games and betas forget about it.

A 980Ti matches a 1070 so yes, get one if the price is right. It will be a nice upgrade from your 960 :D

My 980Ti still rocks everything in 1440p. If you can find a custom card for that price, go for it.

its performance is on par or above a gtx 1070 in majority of things so if you thought the 1070 was a good card then that will answer the question.
