First PC build, need advice.

Ultimately the R7 1700 is not as good at gaming as the 7700k or the 8700k, however, the game performance when streaming is almost the same between the 1700 and 8700k. In heavy threaded workloads like video editing and photoshop etc. the 1700 will be the better performer. It has 8 core and 16 threads vs the 8700k with 6 core 12 threads. Now all this being said the 1700 is a good option as the 1700x and 1800x only really overclock to 4.0GHz (some people get lucky and get to 4-.1-4.2GHz) but for the most part all the R7 lineup only goes to 3.9-4.0GHz. So if you want to save money and get 1800x performance get the 1700 and OC it, and for the time being you can use the stock CPU cooler as it is quite good and looks really good, even has RGB. As far as motherboards go since it is in your budget I would go for an X370 Asus or MSI motherboard. These will be good options. 

 

I would watch many Youtube videos to get yourself familiar but I personally went from my main work computer being an i7-6700k with a GTX 980 Ti to now my R7 1700 with a GTX 1080. Overall general computing performance has skyrocketed and while I don't game a ton on this system it does exceptionally well anyways. My 6700k is the better gaming CPU and finances allowed me to keep it and put it in another build which is my primary gaming system. So it ultimately is your decision. If gaming is the number 1 priority get the 8700k, if productivity is get the 1700.

Pretty good but what's it for 16 gb of ram is probably fine unless you need the 32gb in that case why not a higher core count CPU? I'm confused if it's for gaming get 16gb instead and get a 1080ti with the money you save

@JM21 Okay, so here's the final build. Going with a 8700k, with the ROG Strix z370-H, 16 GB of Ripjaws V, and the H115i AIO, my question about that is, 1 is it better than the Noctua that I had before? And 2 should I replace the fans that come with it, with the Noctua NF-A14 that I had already planned on buying? Also found a better deal for a better monitor, going to go with the Dell S2417DG 2560x1440 165Hz.

 

Also, the EVGA Geforce GTX 1080 8GB Superclocked card you had recommended.

AIO coolers have their benefits, in my experience a big air cooler and an AIO are actually about the same when it comes to cooling a CPU. In some cases now because they are narrow it is actually hard to fit big air coolers and an AIO is the only option for better cooling power. I moved away from my 240 AIO to a big Cryorig air cooler. I think it's a totally logic option to get the h115i though.

 

As far as fans go I would keep the stock fans it comes with for now and you can always change fans later. Also if you want to have a better look the Noctua NF fans are black and my personal all-time favorite fan is the Corsair ML, looks way better, better optimized for static pressure and airflow, and is just as quiet as the NF series.

 

Otherwise, It looks like a good build! I think your final decision is a good one!
