pcpartpicker Computer for Christmas - Parental Worries

Hello, I was talking to my parents about getting a computer for Christmas, and how I've wanted to build one for a while now. They think building the computer is too much of a hassle and insist on me buying either a Pre-Built or a Laptop. I've wanted to build a computer for a while, and have always envied at the computer builds I see getting built either on LTT or by their community. My parents worry that the parts won't be compatible, and for $2,000 USD don't want to invest in something that only "might work," which is completely understandable. So I came here to check with the community and get various opinions from other people. The guidelines I made for my build, was that the brands stay strictly Asus, Intel, Nvidia, Corsair, Microsoft and Western Digital. This is my second post on this forum regarding this topic. My first post and PCPP list has been revised to fit the criteria of the criticism that was given. So I'm looking for even more criticism to double check that my parts are all compatible, and that will work without issue. How much better are the i5 and i7 Coffee lakes at multi tasking? Will the i3 be enough to say... play a game, stream music and run skype all at once?

use cyberpower pc if you have to use a "prebuilt" you can do custom pc's and they build it for you!

The new CoffeLake i3 CPU's are basically last gen i5's so they will do a good job but for $20 more you can get an i5-8400 that will be great for multi-core workloads and since you cannot overclock them you can get a cheaper motherboard. So it makes more sense. And PC building really isn't to hard.

If you want prebuilt you will pay a premium but puget systems and cyperpower are good options

What other brand would you recommend that costs less? I just kinda gravitated towards Corsairs peripherals, I like the way they look and they have good reviews and such.

I left peripherals and changed to the i5-8400 that has a stock cooler, changed the storage to something more realistic, don't know why that was your RAM choice, and added a GTX 1060, I left the motherboard cause it's a good one and has Wi-Fi (not sure if you wanted Wi-Fi or not), also since you have a mATX motherboard get a mATX case.

I built my first PC my senior year of highschool and that was LONG before youtube, PCPartPicker and LTT where a thing, show them 1 good PC build video to show them how truly simple it is to assemble the parts and explain how PCPartPicker will tell you when things won't work together..

 

 

edit: Also explain how the components from the brands you've listed are of higher quality (with longer warranty periods) then the parts you find in a "prebuilt".

Do you really need a Corsair branded mouse pad and headset stand? Same with the headset and keyboard. These items alone will cost them over $300 and would make any non-tech savvy parent question this investment. $2000 for a Christmas present is beyond a lot. I would skip on those items for now.

What I would recommend if you are spending 2000 dollars on a pc and peripherals is to split the budget into sections. What I'm trying to say is that leave 1000 dollars to build the actual pc and get parts that can actually run games and leave 1000 dollars for the monitor and all of your other peripherals. In my opinion it is better to get a better and faster PC than top a top of the line keyboard that really has no room in the budget. 

 

I would get an i5 and a better video card and then find places to cut some money (peripherals)

 

I tries to get my parents to let me build a PC when our old computer died and I got so close. They wanted to see all the parts and their warranties and if they worked together. Of course this was with a computer that would have cost 600 dollars but that's all in my dreams now

This was my first thought when I looked at the parts list. I was like why are you spending so much money on the storage lol.
