NEC SX-Aurora TSUBASA

NEC has recently announced their SX-Aurora TSUBASA PCIe based Vector Engine card. Designed for use in the field of engineering and science, it is now also used for artificial intelligence as well as machine learning. In it, the the SX-Aurora TSUBASA, uses CoWoS, that's Chip on Waver on Substrate connected to six HBM2 modules, giving each core 150GB/s of bandwidth, has a total of 8 cores, thus the total combine bandwidth comes out to 1.2TB/s and 2.45TFlops of performance. The card runs on linux and and will need some specialized program to take advantage of them, and NEC has provided their own tools, to help those that want to use it. It can be configured in a wide range of configurations from single card in a desktop tower and up to 64 of them in a rack mount server, where it will have a total bandwidth of 76.8TB/s and 156TFlops of performance.

Obviously a joke but to reply anyway... It wouldn't lol. Its a vector engine card, has no way of being able to render 3D graphics. Its more like a CPU.

Why? This is barely comparable to a gpu, if anything it's more like a cpu. Gpus are made for throughput, and at 2.5TFlops with 8 cores, this isn't it. 

 

The likely workloads for this would be I/O heavy or ones that work with VERY large datasets, without requiring tons of actual compute power.

NEC is far from new. But my point wasn't that this is slow or useless, it was that this isn't geared at graphics at all.
