144hz or Ultrawide?

Busconian
Go to solution Solved by Himommies,

Ultrawide's under 30 inches suck

get the 144hz

Right now I am running a 27" Samsung Monitor, and 2 1680x1050 screens for the sides. One samsung one HP. They all run at 60Hz.

I play CSGO, PUBG, Battlefield 4, GTA 5, Overwatch and some others. I occasionally try to stream and I really enjoy multitasking.

So what do I want?

A 144hz display?

https://www.amazon.ca/LG-25UM58-P-25-21-UltraWide/dp/B01BV1XB2K/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1508727809&sr=1-1&keywords=ultrawide

Or a ultrawide?

I have an i5 6400, 8GB of RAM, with a GTX 1080.

How many games actually support a ultrawide screen resolution?

Ultrawide with PVP/FPS games are fairly nice, since it enabled you to see more. And as far as I know, the games you listed SHOULD support ultrawide. All and over, this is your decision. It really just goes whats best for you.

I'd go for the 144Hz monitor, ratio on it will be better over an ultrawide.

I'd rather have more viewable space on a >29" ultrawide at 75Hz rather than a 16:9 @144Hz.

On top of that not all games support Ultra wide..

Nearly all games support ultrawide resolutions in much the same way that 3840x2160 is supported.

and with those wide monitor your eyes needs to refocus each time and made ur eyes tired faster..

TBH I didn't notice a difference between 60 and 144hz

+ setting it up was a bitch with the XL2411Z

maybe you can upgrade something else with the money?

thats my 2 cents and my experience.

Thats why i said not all games cause i still encountered a game that doesnt support that in the past..on top of that ultra wide is not so ubiquitous right now but maybe its not an issue in the future..maybe all games will support ultra wide..

Yup it also applied to triple monitor setup.

I still don't see how turning your eyes is even a downside when you don't have to. Your peripheral vision is supposed to be focused on those screens while your primary vision is on the center. Practically every game is supporting ultrawide aside from the uber-competitive games of CSGO and Overwatch.

If you a) have the spare cash, b) have the time to wait, and c) are okay turning your settings down a little bit (even a 1080 would struggle): then you could look at the Acer Predator x35 slated to come out next year. 35" curved ultra wide, 3440*1440, 21:9, G-Sync, HDR, and wait for it.... It runs at 200hz.

Though, it'll likely be priced around $1,300 like the x34.

I wouldn't recommend either of the displays you linked. But the ViewSonic XG2401 is a good 144hz 1080p monitor and it has FreeSync too if you have an AMD card. As far as the Ultrawide or High Refresh Rate argument goes, I think you should get a 144hz monitor over an Ultrawide. The games you play scream 144hz because you would see the most benefit out of it. Multitasking is a good excuse for an ultrawide but its not enough. Using an old/cheap screen beside a 144hz screen, while not as elegant, is a more effective solution.

Also, never get a 25" ultrawide, there is no reason to. A 25" 16:9 is the same price and has a bigger screan area. 29" Ultrawides are a good sweet spot as you can get one as cheap as $270 but get a 27" 16:9 if you can for more screen area. I am also curious why @Himommies is against Ultrawides under 30".

easy answer : if you use it for just gaming get a 144hz 27inch or less moniter.

Don't buy a 25inch UW just no.

Also the lowest UW I would go is the 29 inch and even then I would only get it if A: I really needed it for work and B: I couldn't afford the bigger ones.

I use a 34inch UW and it is awesome, most games run UW(Not looking at you Overwatch) and when they do its awesome.

The Biggest UW issue for the really good g-sync ones is there retarded price.

There is almost no advantage to them compared to a 16:9.And unless it's on sale the 16:9 panel with exactly the same specs will always be cheaper
