Just a few questions about Gearbest and this laptop

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

So I'm looking to purchase a laptop for browsing, word processing and some light gaming. This is what I've found: https://www.gearbest.com/laptops/pp_648196.html

I can pick it up for £596 using a coupon + import fees. Is there any way to avoid import fees?

Is there any better laptop for the price and will this laptop be able to do games such as civilization V and Rimworld?

Is Gearbest a reliable website to buy from?

Please excuse all the questions but I want to make sure this is the right thing to buy

So I don't really know that much about the laptop but what I can tell you is that there is no way to avoid import fees in our country, import fees and tax make buying from overseas usually not worth it and make it more expensive than some other better options you can find.

I live in the United Kingdom - import fees are 20% of the total price which brings it up to £714

So you have import fees and duty tax here.

I honestly would NOT recommend buying from outside the EU. It's not worth the hassle.

Dude, i'm in the UK too, so please trust me when I say that its not worth paying the import cost. Royal mail also add of their own hidden fee for holding "foreign" goods whilst you pay the import tax. Surely there's a retailer here you can use??

Could use some of the saved money to add your own SSD

Similar spec to the Chinese one, also includes somewhat of a graphics chip

These are both in the PC world sale

While these are decent laptops; they are imo bulky and I'm not convinced that they are worth the drop in price relative to the Xiaomi.

Oh you wanted something slim? Something like this is nice and sleek, bar the colour. Best option is to actually go into one of their stores
