Nicknames

Ok, so those of us who Don't like our name really have no option to change it. I understand that this is probably to make tagging people and finding their profile a bit easier, but again, if you don't like your name, its stuck.

I think that a way we could fix this is adding some sort of nickname system. Kind of like how skype has a username, and then a name that can be changed. It would be implemented is such a way that It would show The Nickname first, and below it it would show the username.

This is what It would look like i guess

Nickname: A_Person
username: TrevMCC38

This might happen but i know for sure you will never be able to change your username. Can't remember why but that will never happen.

in some extreme cases (for example, if you'd name yourself donald, and then 5 years later someone of the same name starts a world war) the admins *may* give you the option of changing it as a "one-time" deal.

I’ve seen users in here have tier names changed, three if I’m counting correctly

There is a policy for name changes, but it requires your name being messed up from importing your steam/google account.

They where accounts used for months before they asked for Name change 

 

but I guess just recelry they are harder on name changes

Linus himself doesn't want users to change their names. He said it in the State of the Union livestream last. Reason: accountability. He wants users to be held responsible of their actions and easiest is to keep username same. You should thank him for allowing changes to avatars and custom member titles (after 500 posts).

Seems reasonable. But then again that's basically the exception confirming the rule. I mean if a twat called Sam Cool (it's actually possible someone has that name, i know people with the name Sam and other with the surname Cool, but not both) decided to play war somewhere (or something else that's really bad) i would also want a nick change.

 

FYI: that's not my name at all so at least my real name won't be ruined if that happened...

After having played with IPS software myself for a few days, I can say with confidence this won't happen unless somebody makes a cheap (or free) plugin which the forum can easily use.

 

The Devs won't likely add in this feature natively into IPS anytime soon if ever.
