I am torn between caorsair air series sp120 quiet edition and silent wings 3 pwm. They are both about the same price.

Pros-sp120

quiet

removable ring changing to red for black/red setup

Cool

pros-silent wings 3

Quietest fan ever(probably)

cool

yeah

 

 

 

 

 

the bad thing about sw3 is it doesn't have a removable ring. I will be using p400s tg black/red with air cooler so just need airflow.

SP120 QE's aren't that quiet and only make sense on dense rads. On an air cooler, SW3's will perform better and be quieter.

SP fans are not PWM and in my experience are loud compared to almost any PWM fan

Yes and I am getting these are the quiet edition of 23dbA nevertheless these fans are for SP so it would probably be wiser to use them on a radiator or next to a drive cage.

Ah that is new then, I did not know that!

I am a bit of a fan snob so I almost exclusively buy Corsair ML fans which are very quiet and perform super well, just pricey. The Cooler Master Silencio fans are also very good but I think they have now been replaced, I have some in my server and they are near dead quiet at lower RPM.

Correct, or if you have them set as intake fans but have a glass/plastic panel in front and the air intake comes from side vents.

 

I like the ML fans because they offer both static pressure and airflow optimization. Cooler Master also has their new Air Balance fans that have similar properties. But if you are between choosing the SW3 and the SP, I would get the SW3, they are very good fans!
